Polish volleyball players had a great start this year in the League of Nations. Stefano Lavarini’s wards won their first three matches and were optimistic about playing against Serbia. The last time Byalo-Chervone defeated players from the Balkans was in 2015.
Sixteen national teams compete in the 2023 Women’s Nations League. Italy, USA, Serbia, Thailand, Poland, South Korea, Canada and a home team compete in the first tournament held in Turkey. In turn, Japan, Brazil, Bulgaria, the Netherlands, the Dominican Republic, Croatia, Germany and China are fighting in Japanese Nagoya.
Poland last beat Serbia in 2015.
Biało-Czerwone recorded a great VNL opening. Wards of Stefano Lavarini after the first three matches have many victories on their account. At the inauguration, the Poles beat Canada (3:2), then the Italians (3:1), and in the Friday meeting they beat Tayok (3:0).
In the fourth match, the Polish volleyball players met with the Serbs, who were last beaten in 2015. Since then, players from the Balkans have won eight matches in a row against the White-Reds.
League of Nations 2023: Poles start brilliantly
This year, at the League of Nations, the wards of Stefano Lavarini wanted to break this series. The beginning of this meeting was very promising, because Byalo-Chervone took the lead in the score 8:4 and controlled the course of this meeting. Everything worked in the game of the Polish national team - the reception, the defense, the block, and the attack.
Things were not going so well for the opponents, which was clearly shown by coach Guidetti. At some point, the Poles even pulled ahead by seven points (20:13), from which they did not concede to the end. In the end, the Balkan volleyball players spoiled our blood a bit, but in the end the first game fell to the white-reds 25:18.
Strong start of the second set by the Serbs
Unfortunately, the second game started with a serve and took the lead 0:3. Coach Stefano Lavarini immediately asked for a break to instruct his charges. This time-out allowed us to break the opponents, and then, thanks to the excellent serve of Venerska, equalize the score, and Stysiak’s block and attack allowed us to take the lead 5:3.
With a 6-6 draw, Byalo-Chervone won three points in a row, thanks to which they broke away from the opponent, and then broke away from the Balkan volleyball players by six points (14:8). As a result, the Serbs began to catch up, and the Poles have already reached three “points” (20:17). The ending turned out to be very nervous, because the rivals caught up with our volleyball players by one point (21:20). However, Stysiak and company were more cool-headed, which won 25:22.

In the third set, Poland started with a 3-0 lead. Unfortunately, Stefano Lavarini’s wards began to make more and more of their own mistakes, because of which the score fell apart and the Serbs took the lead 8:10. The opponents started defending very well and completing attacks. Stefano Lavarini tried to respond with changes, but they did not change the picture of the game, and volleyball players from the Balkans for the first time in this match jumped by five “points” - 9:14.
Over time, Byalo-Chervone picked up the rhythm and began to return to their disposal from the first two sets. As a result, the Poles equalized the gap to two points (20:22). Later, Monica Feducio was injured, which motivated Stefano Lavarini’s charges to fight even more. Our volleyball players leveled the score - 23:23. As a result, the Poles won this set 30:28, and the whole match - 3:0. The next meeting with our volleyball players is scheduled for June 13th.
