A secret investor wants to buy Slask Wroclaw. The mayor reveals his cards

Must read

The Ekstraklasa Śląsk players had two very bad seasons. Wroclaw took the last safe place in the league. In addition, the club will soon change ownership. Apparently, an interesting foreign investor has entered the game for WKS.

Slask Wroclaw finished 15th at the end of the 2022/23 season in PKO BP Ekstraklasa. In the Lower Silesian capital, they tried to do everything to keep themselves in the national elite. And the restoration of Jacek Magiera as a coach after a year’s break, and … the weakness of the Wisla Plock players have borne fruit. Ekstraklasa Śląsk has another important moment ahead, namely a possible change of ownership.

Wrocław Mayor Jacek Sutryk extended the deadline for the sale of Silesia

Since 2013, the most famous sports club in Wroclaw has been on the city budget. Some residents of Wroclaw openly criticize the management of public finances, part of which is directed to the operation of a professional sports club. This amounts to more than PLN 10 million annually.

On top of this, the bad results of the Slask footballers, the ownership of the Wrocław City Hall gradually ceased to pay off. The president of the capital of Lower Silesia, Jacek Sutrik, decided to start the process of privatizing the club. The city announced a tender, which was originally supposed to last until June 5.

However, on Friday afternoon, President Sutrik announced on social media that the sale of Silesia could be extended. “The reason is the increased interest in buying a controlling stake in Śląsk Wrocław,” the politician said on Twitter.

Mysterious investor to lead the Wroclaw club?

Silesia was valued at PLN 8.5 million. According to information provided by Piotr Janas from Wrocławska Gazeta, the closing date of the tender was postponed at the request of one of the foreign companies.

So it seems that Silesia, after years of investment by the city, could now become a club with foreign capital. As long as the company in question really wins the fight for a well-deserved Lower Silesian club. Let’s remind that Šlėnsk residents play matches in one of the arenas of Euro 2012, which is currently called Tarczyński Arena.
