Amanda Anisimova decided to suspend her sports career. The 21-year-old tennis player shared the sad news on social networks. The athlete of Russian origin, representing the United States, openly admitted to mental health problems.
Tennis fans may associate Amanda Anisimova with her success a few years ago. An American tennis player of Russian origin reported in the finals of the youth Grand Slam tournaments. Anisim was among others the winner of the US Open (2017) and the finalist of the Roland Garros tournament (2016). In her senior career, Anisimova reached the semi-finals of the 2019 Grand Slam Classic in Paris.
Amanda Anisimova took a break from her career due to mental health
The tennis player, currently ranked 46th in the WTA rankings, can write off the last few months mainly as a loss. Just a few years ago, Anisimova was close to the top 20 singles in the world.
“I decided to publish a post explaining what is happening to me and my plans. As of summer 2022, I am really struggling with my mental health and burnout. Being at tennis tournaments became unbearable. At the moment my priority is my mental well being and rest for a while. I worked my hardest to get through this. I will miss the court, I appreciate and thank you for your continued support,” she wrote on Instagram.
Youngest Grand Slam semi-finalist in history
It cannot be ruled out that the successes that quickly appeared in Anisimova’s career had a great impact on the mental health of the football player. Suffice it to say that the player during the aforementioned US Youth Open (2017) beat Coco Gauff. The one with which Iga Sviontek won last year in the finals of the adult tournament in Paris.
Once again, it turns out that it is not easy to transfer youthful successes to older ones. Anisimova after the semi-finals of the RG four years ago (2019) became the youngest woman to reach the fourth Grand Slam tournament. She was under 18 at the time, but today, at 21, she has to say stop.
