The next stage of the match between Poland and Italy within the United Cup is over. This time, Hubert Hurkacz met with Matteo Berrettini and, unfortunately, failed in this war of nerves. So Italy took the lead.
The Polish national team plays in the quarterfinals of the United Cup. We already had three individual matches. Unfortunately, the skirmish with Italy started badly for the white-reds, because in the first match Damian Michalski lost to Lorenzo Musetti. Italy won 2:0 (6:1 and 6:1). Then Iga Sviontek appeared on the court. She also had problems with rival Martina Trevisan. The 29-year-old football player especially frightened our compatriot in the second set, but Rashinyan won with a score of 2:0 (6:2 and 6:4). Only then did Hubert Gurkacz go into battle.
Match Poland - Italy in the United Cup
He had to face a difficult opponent, because he competed with Matteo Berrettini. From the very beginning of the match, the Wroclawian had to escape from oppression, because the tennis player from Italy quickly took the lead 2:0. It took the Pole some time to find the right rhythm of the game, but when it did, he won three games in a row thanks to a break and an ace on the serve. The Italian did not let go for a minute, won the break, and then played great. Thus, he received an advantage that he did not give up until the end of the first set. Gurkach lost with a score of 4:6.
The 26-year-old player started the second half much better. He came forward with a great serve and then a spectacular shot. Berrettini then became a little nervous as he saw that certain victory was slipping out of his hands. With a score of 2:2, the Pole noted a strong superiority over his opponent. He used a break point, impressed with his serves and thanks to this he quickly became 5:2, and after another ace 6:3 and 1:1 for the entire meeting.
The result of the match Hubert Hurkach - Matteo Berrettini. Problems of the Polish national team
The representative of Italy in the third game showed himself much better, mainly in those games where he had a serve. With her, he did not give Gurkach a single chance. And this one answered … almost the same. Emotions overwhelmed both players, but Berrettini handled the pressure better. At the key moments of the games, the Pole hit inefficiently, as a result of which he lost the second set 3:6 and the entire match 1:2. Thus, in the 2:1 match between the white-reds and Italy, the team from Southern Europe took the lead.
