They played against Croatia, Canada and Belgium. There is no business here. Their game is built on defense, but the Moroccans are good on the counter and very effective. They don’t need many chances to score. At most one, two, three situations that they win, because they give most of their strength to a very compact and active defense.
No matter what, France will be the favourite, and getting out of the group with the first place and the semi-final itself is a huge sensation of this championship for Morocco.
Is it possible to surprise reigning champions with such a minimalistic offensive play?
Anything is possible, but I don’t think the French will miss this chance to be in the World Cup final again and defend the title at the moment. The absolute favorite here is France, which can play against teams from Africa. It will also be a geopolitical battle, because let’s remember what relations are developing between these two countries, how the fans react to it and what is already happening in France.
It’s probably everywhere, because there’s a lot going on in Belgium too.
There are areas where there are many Moroccan migrants, as in France, dozens of people have already been detained for setting fireworks and demolishing the city. This match is under a lot of pressure, not only on the field, but also off it. Regardless of the outcome, it will be hotter outside than on the field, where many players know each other very well.
It will be very difficult for Morocco to keep the scoreline again and score in the promotion because the French could pick up the pace. It is true that against England the Sons of Albion were the best team and the Tricolors were promoted by luck, but luck always favors the best.
The French have already lost the match against North Africa - Tunisia. Do the Moroccans see their chances in this?
I do not take away the chances of the Moroccan national team, but let’s remember that in the match with Tunisia, the French made nine substitutions, and now the squad in which they played from the very beginning will come out. I don’t expect such a surprise. The French came not to advance from the group or to be in the semi-finals, but to defend the World Cup, despite the injuries of Benzema, Nkunku, Hernandez and Kante.
How much can these changes affect the freshness of the French?
First, Morocco played in extra time and chased the ball more. Physically, the French are well prepared for the championship. The Moroccans will have huge problems here, because there have already been several injuries, for example. on centre-backs, so that they are already slowly beginning to feel the difficulties of their intense game and their characteristic heroism. There is no hope that the French will get tired.
