The French Football Federation has announced that it has filed an official protest with FIFA over their result in the match against Tunisia. In the final seconds of the match, Antoine Griezmann equalized, but after the final whistle the goal was canceled by the referee after consultation with VAR. Les Bleus demand his recognition.

The French national team won the first two matches of group C of the World Cup in Qatar, thanks to which they advanced to the playoffs. The world champions sensationally lost to Tunisia in the last meeting, but this did not hurt them at all and they were close to a draw, but Griezmann’s unaccounted goal sealed the victory for the Africans. The French cannot accept this state of affairs, because they claim that the goal was scored correctly, and the referee made a mistake.

France filed a protest with FIFA

The Tunisians had only a mathematical chance to take a place that guarantees access to the 1/8 finals of the World Cup in Qatar. To do this, they needed to win against France, which they did sensationally, and also count on a draw in Australia’s match with Denmark. This did not happen as the Australians won 1-0.

The Tunisians led France 1-0 from the 58th minute and brought the result to the end of the game, although, fortunately for them, Griezmann scored the wrong goal. The French PFA filed a complaint with FIFA on Thursday, stating that VAR was used after the restart and after the final whistle, which is said to be contrary to protocol for the use of technology.

What happens if FIFA recognizes a French goal?

So far, FIFA has not commented on the situation, but the efforts of the French will not change the situation in the Group D table, unless they add one more point.

Not so with the FIFA rankings, where a loss to Tunisia would drop France to fifth place, 38 points behind.
