Ukraine received another powerful decision from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in support of the creation of a Special Tribunal to prosecute the crime of Russian aggression against Ukraine. Wrote about it Deputy Head of the OP Andrey Smirnov on your Facebook page.
“Another proof that the civilized world is waking up and impunity for perpetrators of such audacious crimes is a matter of time, not long political discussions,” Smirnov wrote.
According to him, the Assembly notes the ongoing violation by Russia of all the basic principles and doctrines of international law, international documents and conventions, including the UN Charter, since 2014, which, in fact, is the beginning of the crime of aggression.
“Belarus takes part in Russia’s aggression against Ukraine because it allowed them to use its territory to commit crimes against Ukraine. Its role and complicity must be condemned by the international community and its leader must be held accountable.” he added.
He emphasized that the Assembly states that the International Criminal Court does not yet have jurisdiction over the crime of aggression committed against Ukraine, given that neither Russia, Belarus, nor Ukraine are parties to the ISS Charter and that the United Nations Security Council has not referred this situation to the Prosecutor of the ISS, and also notes that there is no other international criminal tribunal competent to prosecute and punish crimes of aggression committed against Ukraine.
“The Assembly reiterates its unanimous call to the member and observer states of the Council of Europe to establish a special international criminal tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine, which must be approved and supported by as many states and international organizations as possible, and in particular by the General the UN Assembly, Andrey Smirnov said.
The Deputy Head of the Presidential Office also thanked the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, PACE members and the entire team for their strong advocacy and support, as well as citizens who expect fair punishment for insane criminals.
