President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky addressed Ukrainians on the occasion of the Day of Dignity and Freedom.
“Ten years ago we began a new page of struggle. Ten years ago, the Ukrainians carried out their first counter-offensive – against lawlessness, attempts to deprive us of a European future, against our bondage. Year after year, step by step, we do everything so that our star, the star of Ukraine, shines in the circle of stars on the EU flag, symbolizing the unity of the peoples of Europe. Only the strong can be the only ones. The only ones to be free. Free to be worthy. For the sake of new times” – he said.
According to the head of state, Ukrainians have covered a long stretch of the European integration path over this decade. If in 2013 EU membership was an ambitious goal, now the reality is that “it is impossible to stop our movement forward and overcoming all mandatory stages.”
He is confident that Ukraine’s status as a candidate country and negotiations must necessarily culminate in full membership in the EU. “And we do all this despite the war. When our people defend both themselves and Europe now,” – Zelensky added.
Let us recall that this day was started by presidential decree in November 2014 in honor of the Orange Revolution of 2004 and the Revolution of Dignity of 2013.
