Danish intelligence believes that at the time of the invasion of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin into Ukraine, he was affected by the drugs he was taking during his cancer treatment. This was announced in an interview with Berlingske Danish intelligence officer (FE) named Joakim.

Megalomania is one of the known side effects of the hormone therapy he has been taking. Joachim says. - I can’t say for sure, but I think it influenced his decision when he started the war in Ukraine.”

Joakim leads the Russia analysis team at FE, the Danish military intelligence service. For security reasons, he is not allowed to introduce himself in photographs or give his last name. This is the man who leads Danish intelligence gathering on President Putin, the Russian army and Russian society. And it is he who is helping Danish officials and politicians get the best understanding of the threat Putin poses to Denmark and his chances of success in Ukraine. Joakim has now agreed to raise the curtain on at least some of this knowledge for Berlingske readers. He also gives us an educated guess as to why the path sometimes looks uncomfortable when sitting and gripping the edge of the table tightly with his hand.

Today it is clear that the key unknown factor was Putin’s poor decision making. We place much of the blame for this on Putin’s shoulders. Not bad intelligence, but Putin’s ideological convictions led Russian soldiers to believe that they would be greeted with flowers. It was through him that everything was planned in a narrow circle of people and only at the last minute was transferred to the performers. Therefore, the Russian troops simply did not know what to do. Also because of Putin’s decision to call it a “special military operation” rather than a war, the Russian army unexpectedly lacked 30,000 infantrymen to invade. In practice, this meant that the Russian troops could not use their usual conscripts, but had to use expensively trained specialists as infantrymen.“.

However, according to Joakim, they actually did a worse job.

That’s why you saw these units moving quickly through the cities, hoping that no one would shoot at them.“.

But he still believes that the Russians were close to success. Russian paratroopers actually captured the Gostomel airport on the outskirts of Kyiv and were waiting for reinforcements. But the planes with fresh troops simply could not get there, because the Russians could not overcome the Ukrainian air defense.

These are rather small factors that ultimately decided the outcome. says Joachim. “Ukraine has good chances to win back most of the occupied territories. How much depends partly on how much weapons the West provides to help the Ukrainians, and partly on how much winter will drain Russian morale. Ukrainians are well equipped to survive the winter. The Russians are not. Especially mobilized troops. What will it make them do? Leave your positions when it gets really cold?

Despite Putin’s many failed decisions, the Danish military intelligence service sees no immediate risk of him being removed from power. In its 2021 annual report, FE stated that the waysvery likelywill remain the leader of Russia after the next presidential election in 2024. However, the Danish intelligence service reduced this forecast in its 2022 report to a less confident forecast that the pathsprobablywill remain in power for the next five years.

Thousands of people on social media are commenting hopefully on reports that Putin has at various times been seen limping on Red Square, holding onto his desk, or with obvious weakness in his right hand. Danish intelligence does not believe that the path is suffering from a terminal illness, but rather is in severe chronic pain after several falls and accidents.

Joakim does not want to say what exactly happened or reveal the source of his information. But it’s not just social media video research. Various media outlets previously reported that the tracks were suffering from the effects of a fall from a horse in the 2000s. Later it was reported that he had also been injured in judo and hockey classes in the past few years.

This is a very curious thing. It’s a chronic pain that he’s been suffering from for quite some time now. says Joachim. “So he tries to sit and hold onto things tightly. It’s to ease the pain.”.

At the same time, FE believes that Putin used to have a form of cancer, and that he was being treated for it when he started the war, which may have influenced his decision.

Recall that Danish intelligence believes that the risk of Russian use of nuclear weapons has increased.
