Ukrainian refugees who arrived in Canada under a temporary migration program introduced in connection with the full-scale Russian invasion can, if they wish, receive permanent status in this country.
This was stated by the Prime Minister of Canada in an interview with CBC. Justin Trudeau.
“Many Ukrainians who have come to Canada are looking forward to returning home and joining the recovery, but there are also many who want to stay. They will be welcomed, so they can be glorious Canadians and proud Ukrainians at the same time,” he said.
Interestingly, while giving the interview, Trudeau was sitting in the premises of a bakery in Toronto, which is owned by the descendants of Ukrainian migrants.
Note that since the beginning of this year, more than 135,000 Ukrainians have arrived in Canada, but not all of them were refugees. Since mid-March, the federal government has approved over 470,000 special visa applications from Ukrainians.
And in the summer, the Canadian government introduced a special program under which refugees were provided with free tickets for flights to this country. In total, under this program, they plan to send at least 10,000 refugees from Ukraine to Canada.
