Sociologist and researcher of “Putinism” Igor Eidmanwho believes that the invasion of Ukraine could end in apocalyptic turmoil for Russia, does not rule out that Putin could step down as president of Russia within the next year.
“Russia will lose this war completely, and the path will go away within a year. I estimate the probability of such a scenario at 60-70%. Another 20-30 percent that this will happen within two years. And no more than 10% that it will drag on longer”- he said in an interview with Glavred.
In his opinion, the probability of removing the head of the Kremlin from power will largely depend on chance.
“The entire Russian elite is complaining, but whether there are brave people there, and even if they are lucky, to try to remove Putin from power or physically destroy him, I cannot say. Nobody knows. But in any case, Putin has no future. I don’t think it will last more than a year, two at the most. His regime is absolutely doomed, and he himself will most certainly be declared insane - everything is leading to this.- he noted and added that the Russian elites will continue to try to disown Putin’s actions in Ukraine.
The sociologist predicts that the change of power in Russia will lead to fundamental changes, because in Russian history, defeat in the war and the departure of an autocrat have always led to global transformations - to reforms and a thaw.
And the one who comes to change the path will try to negotiate with Ukraine and Western countries regarding a confrontation that is destructive for Russia. “Someone will try to negotiate to make concessions”- says Igor Eidman.
Earlier, the sociologist said that having received a decent response from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russia is increasingly sending signals about the need for negotiations.
