NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg congratulated Ukrainians on Independence Day. In his speech, he quoted a poem by Taras Shevchenko.

He posted the corresponding video on his Twitter page.

“Your great poet Taras Shevchenko once wrote: “Yes, it doesn’t matter to me how evil people put Ukraine to sleep, crafty, and on fire, wake up the stolen one. Oh, I don’t care.” It’s not all the same for NATO,” the Secretary General began his address.

He recalled that the North Atlantic Alliance has provided Ukraine with support since it became independent and strengthened it after the events of 2014, and even more since February 24.

“You can continue to count on NATO’s support for as long as it is needed. As NATO leaders said at the Madrid summit, a strong and independent Ukraine is vital to stability in the Euro-Atlantic area. Ukraine should get an advantage - and it will get it. Now, on your Independence Day, I wish you strength and success,” Stoltenberg concluded.

Earlier, the EU and US ambassadors welcomed Ukrainians on Independence Day.

As reported, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhny congratulated the Ukrainians on the occasion of the 31st anniversary of the independence of our state by publishing a touching video dedicated to the nation’s struggle for freedom.
