The Mar-a-Lago search in Palm Beach has attracted the attention of a public that is demanding a response. Neil Katyal, former US Attorney General under President Barack Obama, said the raid likely confirmed that Trump was under criminal investigation by the Justice Department.
The prosecutor argues that the services must have evidence of this, otherwise the house will not be searched.
“If I were Donald Trump’s lawyer right now, and thank God I’m not, I would advise my client to tell his family that I’m looking forward to jail and should plan ahead,” Katyal told MSNBC Monday night.

From 2010 to 2012, Neamah Rahmani served as a federal prosecutor at the United States Attorney’s Office in San Diego, California. In an interview with the Daily Mail, he said that if Trump is found guilty of mishandling documents, he could be disqualified from holding public office, even if he prepares to run for president in 2024.
Rahmani also said Trump could face charges under Section 18 of the US Penal Code, which covers hiding or destroying US government documents.
The Code states that anyone who “intentionally and unlawfully conceals, deletes or destroys or attempts to do so” government documents can be fined and sentenced to up to 3 years in prison. According to the law, anyone found guilty of concealing or destroying documents “will lose their office and be disqualified from holding any office in the United States.”

Trump’s lawyers have already handed over 15 boxes of documents that were supposed to be in the National Archives when he left the office, but ended up in Mar-a-Lago instead. At the time of the handover in January, they considered it a mistake. At the time, they said the White House was filled with “rush” because Trump was busy contesting the election results. The National Archives later confirmed that some of the documents returned by Trump were classified.
