The head of diplomacy of the European Union, Josep Borrell, condemned the decision of the Russian Federation to expand the list of “unfriendly countries”, which added Greece, Denmark, Croatia, Slovakia and Slovenia.
This was reported by the press service of the Council of the European Union.
“The EU considers accusations of unfriendly actions unfounded and unacceptable, calling on Russia to withdraw all such lists. This decision is yet another step for Russia to continue to escalate tensions with the European Union and its member states,” the statement said.
It is also noted that the decree on the creation of a list of so-called unfriendly states is incompatible with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961.
“The EU calls on Russia to reconsider its decision and fully comply with the Vienna Convention. The EU continues to call on Russia to immediately stop its aggression against Ukraine and all other violations of international law, including the violation of its own international obligations,” the statement said.
Note that the EU Council approved the fifth package of military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of 500 million euros.
Earlier, Lithuania called on the EU to increase military assistance to Ukraine.
Recall, the Council of the European Union approved the provision of 1 billion euros to Ukraine to support its economy.
