Disney’s disappointing box office streak continues with haunted mansion, who faced the impossible task of achieving strong box office performance against the backdrop of the Barbenheimer wave. In its third week, the movie adaptation based on the famous trip finally surpassed $76 million worldwide, with $53 million coming from domestic box office and $23 million from overseas. This feature is directed by Justin Simien and plays a stellar line-up, but even with an impressive -39% in the third weekend, haunted mansion has a tough fight with blockbusters like Barbie, OppenheimerAnd Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mutant Turtles.

What to expect from haunted mansion?

Based on the famous Disney attraction, the film tells the story of single mother Gabby (Rosario Dawson), and her son, who buys a new property at a fairly low price. Everything changes when they find out that at night the house comes to life, and various spirits roam the mansion. Gabby seeks the help of numerous professionals, including a priest, a psychic, a paranormal researcher-turned-guide, and a college history professor, to get rid of the spirits.

While the feature has an interesting premise and good specs, it still has a long way to go to make back its estimated $150 million budget. Along with a number of factors limiting its box office performance, the cast was unable to promote the film due to the SAG-AFTRA strike and summer release against tent films such as Barbie And Oppenheimerdespite being much more suited to the spooky season, the set haunted mansion to disappointing box office receipts.

Compared to similar Disney releases such as Holly BaileyX Mermaid which made a $163 million global debut earlier this summer, becoming a worldwide box office sensation, and Jungle Cruise who made $90 million in his first weekend alone, haunted mansionmileage is certainly lower than expected. This feature is the second adaptation of IP based on travel and has been in development for a long time. However, despite the problems, individual performances and references to the attraction have been praised by fans and critics alike.

Along with the aforementioned talents, the film also features Owen Wilson like Father Kent, LaKeith Stanfield like Ben, paranormal tour guide, Tiffany Haddish like Harriet, psychic, Danny DeVito like Bruce, historian, Jamie Lee Curtis like Madame Leota and a young actor Chase W. Dillon as the son of Gabby Travis. Further completion of the cast Jared Leto as the Hatbox Ghost, along with Winona Ryder, Hassan MinajAnd Dan Levy in secondary roles.
