Horror reboots and remakes are all the rage these days. What started with remakes of classics like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Black ChristmasAnd Friday the 13th quickly changed direction in the 2000s to legacy sequels in the mid to late 2010s. This horror revival included the return scream, halloweenAnd Evil Dead to a ton of critical acclaim. Now it looks like a zombie classic. Return of the Living Dead joins in the scary fun as a reboot is officially in development from the appropriately titled Living Dead Media.

It’s important to note that this is not a remake of the 1985 horror comedy gem, as confirmed by the Living Dead Media website. The preview of the site says “Our reboot Return of the Living Dead will expand on the existing world created by the original 5 films while staying true to the R-rated roots, sci-fi, horror and dark comedy that cult classic fans around the world have adored for the past 35 years.” It went on to say, “We are thrilled to revive this legendary franchise for current fans and new generations of zombie fans.” The project also has a director in Steve Walsh whose previous work includes Mook And Kill her goats.

The living dead can’t stay dead for long

It completely embraced the genre with some gruesome horror with brilliant practical effects and campy humor inherited from the zombie apocalypse. Come back was truly the first of its kind, combining genre references, borderline self-aware antics, and damn good scares into one sickeningly funny package. It would help inspire other classics of the genre such as scream And Friday the 13th Part 6: Jason Lives along with modern zombie comedy gems like Zombieland, Anna and the ApocalypseAnd The dead don’t die. In Return, fast-moving undead will rise quickly, followed by several sequels. This included Return of the Living Dead Part 2, Return of the Living Dead 3, Return of the Living Dead: NecropolisAnd Return of the Living Dead: Rave to the Gravebut nothing ever came close to matching Dan O’BannonOriginal zombie comedy. Because of that, it will be interesting to see what this new reboot will be about and if any of the original stars of the series will enjoy it. Tom Matthews will be back for this exciting project.

When it will be Return of the Living Dead Reload release?

No window or release date for Return of the Living Dead reboot again. However, while horror fans wait for more news about the project, the original was released on 4K Blu-ray by Scream Factory late last year, and the film is also streaming for free on Tubi.
