The creators made a love triangle between Damon (Ian Somerhalder), Stefan (Paul Wesley), and Elena (Nina Dobrev) focus. They wanted Elena to be with Stefan for at least a few seasons before she fell into Damon’s arms. However, their plan to keep Damon evil failed. The fans completely fell in love with him, and in the end, Elena did too. Some episodes show their romantic love story better than others.

Season 3, Episode 22, “The Departed” is one of The Vampire Diaries“The best final of the season. Damon and Elena don’t have screen time together other than a flashback at the end, but that doesn’t mean this episode isn’t romantic.

Damon tries to hide Klaus’ body from Alaric (Matt Davis) but it doesn’t work. Everyone fears extinction if Klaus becomes the father of their bloodline. While waiting, Elena calls Damon to let him go. Maybe if she had met him first, they would have been together. It’s heartbreaking but incredibly romantic that they did it. In a flashback, Damon meets Elena for the first time. He is an evil Damon, but wants her to have everything she seeks. They don’t understand that it’s him after all.

5 “My Brother’s Keeper” - Season 4, Episode 7

Season 4, Episode 7, “My Brother’s Keeper”, is key for Damon and Elena. Elena develops feelings for Damon and breaks up with Stefan. When she sees Damon at the Miss Mystic pageant, she tells him. The look of genuine surprise and awe on his face made the moment worth waiting for.

They look at each other longingly during the event, but later that night they have a chance to dance. Jeremy wants to kill her and her best friend and ex-boyfriend want to change her, but Damon thinks she’s perfect the way she is. He loves her anyway. Delena erupts.

4 “Graduation” - Season 4, Episode 23

After a rollercoaster season, Elena’s emotions return and she is finally free from her bond with her sire. She knows her true feelings again, without his influence, but does not reveal her love for Damon to the end.

Their tension-filled speeches about how they don’t fit together are full of passion. Damon says that he is selfish and doesn’t regret choosing to die instead of being human. Elena does not regret that she loves him. They kiss and everything is fine again. They can finally be together despite their flaws.

Elena is hysterical, but at least Damon says goodbye in a tragically beautiful way. Unfortunately, Elena can’t hear one of the most romantic things he’s ever said to her, that she’s the best thing that’s ever happened to him in his 173 years. Damon died knowing that Elena loved him.

After Damon’s death, Elena is in an emotional state at the beginning The Vampire Diaries Season 6. Thankfully, she doesn’t turn off her humanity, but she comes up with another annoying way to kill her pain. She asks Alaric to banish her memories of Damon. By episode 7, Damon returns and tries to get Elena to remember him. After all, she is ready to try.

Damon takes her places to revive her memory and tells her about one summer night. They went to watch the meteor shower, but got caught in a downpour. Before Damon can finish the story, Elena tries to cross the city limits to remember. It doesn’t work and Damon decides to let her go. He says that the night in the rain ended badly, but that’s not true. They shared a romantic kiss and promised each other forever.

1 “I’ll Marry You in the Golden Summer” - Season 6, Episode 21

In the Season 4 finale, Damon told Elena that he is selfish and has no intention of changing. He enjoyed being a vampire and would rather die than be human. By the end The Vampire Diaries Damon has changed so much in season 6. He is ready to do anything to stay with Elena, even take medicine.

Damon bares his soul in his speech about becoming human. This is one of his most beautiful. ‘I’ll Marry You on a Golden Summer’ is full of Delena’s great moments, but it’s very moving to hear Damon tell Elena that he’ll take medicine to be her husband, partner, and father of her children.
