Less than a month away from San Diego Comic-Con, major companies are starting to roll out their plans for peak pop culture. A number of studios, from Netflix to Universal, have decided to forgo their regular convention appearances, or at least scale down their presence, but DC’s plans have confirmed that the company is in full swing at this year’s event. DC Booth #4645 is undergoing a makeover in the 2023 convention showroom and will feature a range of exclusive merchandise, panels, displays and screenings from July 19th to 23rd.
As always, DC has enlisted a host of superstars from the world of comics and around the world to appear on panels and autographs for fans. Chief among them is the newly appointed president of DC Comics, publisher and chief creative officer. Jim Lee along with the legendary award-winning comic book artist, co-founder and CEO of MacFarlane Toys Todd McFarlane. In terms of panels, DC has brought together quite a few talented artists, including Joshua Williamson, Josh Trujillo, Tom King, Tom Taylor, Mitch Gerads, Nicola Scott, Tiny Howard, Ram Vee, Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Nicole MainesAnd Sina Grace to discuss the future of many of the comics and characters currently in development across many DC projects.
Those in attendance will also be able to attend the world premiere of the new DC animated film. Justice League: World War. Starring jensen, Stana KaticAnd Darren Criss like Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman respectively, in the film, the three heroes team up to form an unbreakable resistance after being swept away into the brutal world of war. Together they face the most difficult task of liberating an entire planet known for its endless gladiator fights. Wednesday, July 19 at Ballroom 20 last episode Teen Titans Go! will also be shown early on thanks to Warner Bros. Television along with the first episode of the original three-part documentary series Max. Heavy Duty: A DC Story which will begin streaming on July 20.
DC comes to SDCC with exclusive merchandise
Of course, the DC booth will feature exclusive comic book releases and other merchandise that can only be found at SDCC. Comic book fans will have no shortage of releases and graphic novels, including SDCC-exclusive hardcover books. McFarlane Toys is expected to have quite a few surprises at the convention as they partner with DC once again. Pre-orders for a wide selection of superhero action figures and toys from DC Multiverse and DC Direct will be available at the DC booth, although fans will have to wait until the toy company reveals more about its SDCC plans. Finally, playing card company Cartamundi will introduce Hro hybrid DC collectible cards featuring iconic characters from the company’s history. A QR code will also be available on each card to unlock its digital twin on the Hro website. More detailed information about the collection is stored next to the vest until July 12th.
