Concert by Jastrzembski Wengel in the semi-finals of the Champions League. Very unexpected ending

Must read

Jastrzębski Wegiel’s volleyball team made a brilliant start to the competition in the Champions League semi-finals. The Polish team easily defeated Ziraat Bank Ankara with a score of 3-0.

It was a real demonstration of the strength of the Polish champions. The team from Jastrzebie entered the match as last year’s finalists. In the memorable Polish final in Turin, the Silesian team lost only to Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle (2:3).

Polish champions are one step away from the Volleyball Champions League final

The Turkish team, despite the smokescreen of Matthew Anderson’s presence in Poland, ultimately had to cope without their famous leader. How important this was for the Ziraatu team could be seen almost from the very beginning of the match. Let us add that the hosts were missing Rafal Shimura, who is usually the main player. The Polish owner was successfully replaced by Croatian Marko Sedlacek.

With a bit of skepticism, one could write that the only problem the hosts had at the beginning of the match was… the absence of the Champions League anthem, which ultimately was not played during the official presentation. However, this did not stop Tomas Fornal and company from quickly imposing their pace, which the Turkish opponent could not resist. In the first and second games, Ziraat Bank Ankara could only look at the scale of the defeat against the Polish opponent.

After 18 minutes the set score was 1:0, the hosts won 25-13. The Polish champions gained a lot when setting up with Sedlacek on serve, quickly jumping to 12:5. The score was 21-9, the visiting coach tried to do everything to change the fate of the competition. But it achieved very little, in fact nothing.

Second batch? This time 25:18 in 24 minutes. There were slightly fewer mistakes on the side of the Turkish opponent, but there were still no arguments in the form of a technique or an effective attack, which is a natural consequence of the opponent’s pressure. Fornal finished the game with a great block from Wouter Ter Maat. We must admit that the celebration of the 200th match in the colors of the Jastrzebie club was impressive.

The third and final game was the most emotional. The Turks were in the lead, but it was clear that the car, brilliantly commanded by Benjamin Toniutti, would catch up with its opponent. This was evident both in the body language of the teams and, above all, in the volleyball arguments. The Polish champions entered the decisive phase with a 21:17 advantage. After several mistakes, the result unexpectedly for the Turkish team became 25:24, 26:25 or 27:26. Jastrzembie had match balls before, but they lost their effectiveness.

Norbert Huber made a great shot (literally) from the serve (28:27), returning Jastrzembe’s team to the lead with an ace. In the end, it all ended with a score of 30:28 and 3:0 in favor of the Polish champions. Jean Patry was chosen as the most valuable player of the match. The French striker scored 20 points, making key plays, especially in such an (unnecessarily) tense ending. Fornal added 19 points.

In the rematch, Jastrzembski Wengel needs just two sets to reach the final. However, if Anderson does not play, it is difficult to imagine that the Polish team will not win a rematch in Turkey.

When will the return match between Ziraat Bank Ankara and Jastrzembski Wengel take place?

The Polish champions will hold a rematch in Turkey exactly a week later, that is, on March 20. The fight in Ankara will begin at 19:00 local time, that is, at 17:00 Polish time. The match will be broadcast on Polsat Sport. Online broadcast includes: Polsat Box Go platform.

The Italian match will take place in the second semi-final of the Champions League. Cucine Lube Civitanova competes with Itas Trentino. The players of the second mentioned team seem to be the favorites, as they performed very well, including during the current league season on the Apennine Peninsula.
