Netflix Nimon has been in development for quite some time, but it’s finally coming to a streamer later this month. The story of a teenage werewolf with a dark past and a penchant for villainy is a great premise for a feature-length animated film, but has been in development for years. However, the streamer is spinning a film that seamlessly blends the genres of sci-fi, adventure, and comedy. Empire magazine has published a new take on this feature, and it’s as cheeky as it gets.
In the new image, Nimona shows off her large, sharp teeth to the curious Ballister Blackheart, another benefit of shapeshifting. Considering the previously released images, it looks like Nimona is going to be showing off her shape-shifting abilities a lot. Feature film based on the graphic novels and comics of the same name N.D. Stevenson sees a teenager that Blackheart has targeted for murder. But by the will of fate, he is accused of a crime and learns that Nimona can acquit him.
Long way to bring Nimon on the screen
While Hollywood is pretty good at adapting comic book material, Nimon walked a trembling path. The film was first announced in 2015 by Blue Sky Studios, but following Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox, Blue Sky’s parent company, the film was canceled due to Blue Sky’s closure in April 2021. However, Netflix and Annapurna Pictures revived the film. the following year, Nick Bruno and Troy Quane took over as directors. “Remember when you were a kid and you were building a tower out of blocks? Then your brother or sister will knock them over and you will have to restore them? said Bruno of a difficult period. “It was a bit like that.”
“Nimona is such a powerful little chaos destroyer,” Quain says. The film will capture her essence with a special style of animation that Bruno called “two and a half D” created around the characters themselves. “What is really close to the camera is more detailed,” Bruno says. “It’s thematic in the sense that the closer we get to people, the more we see them for who they really are.”
