Whether you set out to inherit one of the largest media conglomerates in the world and failed to do so, stunts should always be rehearsed by the production team before they are filmed. succession creator Jesse Armstrong said Diversity he was horrified when Jeremy Strong improvised a take in which Kendall climbed over the railing in the final moments of the series. The problem is that because the scene wasn’t rehearsed, no precautions were taken in case Strong fell into the river, which made making last season a difficult undertaking. “I was terrified,” Armstrong said, “I was afraid that he might fall and get hurt.” He went on to explain:
“He didn’t look like he was going to jump. But once he’s crossed that barrier, when you shoot, there’s usually a lot of health and safety assessments done, and that wasn’t part of our plan that day. I even thought about it, we’d have boats and divers and all sorts of security measures that we didn’t have, so my first thought was about his physical safety as a person, not a character. what I felt that day. Oh my god, upstairs.”
By the end of the episode, Kendall was left in a dark place after Shiv (Sara Snook) refused to vote for him to lead Waystar Royco. Instead, she publicly showed her support for Lukas Matsson (Alexander Skarsgard) hostile takeover of a company. Shiv’s voice gave Matsson the upper hand, and eventually the media conglomerate went over to him after a vicious performance battle. Realizing that what had been promised to him since childhood was now out of his reach, Kendall went for a walk that eventually led him to the riverbank in Battery Park.
That’s not even taking into account how another major player in Roy’s succession drama, Roman (Kieran Culkin) also wanted his piece of the pie. But what made this character different from the others, besides his non-standard relationship with Jerry (J. Smith-Cameron) was that by the end of the story, he had gained enough self-awareness to realize that none of his siblings deserved to sit on the throne due to their lack of seriousness. Even after all these years of struggle, he should never have been Roy’s child, sitting inside this huge skyscraper.
Roy was never a serious person
Before his untimely death Logan Roy (Brian Cox) made sure his kids knew that he didn’t really believe in any of them to lead his company. Even if he loved them in his own perverse way, Logan understood that none of them wanted to be CEO because of their love of the industry. It’s never about their father’s legacy, it’s about feeding their egos into a position of great power where they could control the narrative that determined the future of the country.
