7 Life Lessons Sidney Prescott Learns in the ‘Scream’ Movies

If there is one factor that is undoubtedly sorely lacking in the overall delightful Creek VI, the highly publicized absence of series protagonist Sidney Prescott. Sydney is one of the best end-game horror girls, a badass survivor who has always associated gore, amusingly snarky series with real emotion. Sydney miraculously survives this experience, and it has a strong impact on her friendships and relationships in the future. Campbell’s flawless performance gradually develops throughout the series.

To be clear, this lesson is not “never trust anyone”. If Sydney lived entirely in a bubble, she wouldn’t be so related. Over time and through common experience, Sidney learned to let people in again: first of all Dewey Riley (David Arquette) and, of course, Gale. Sidney and Gale’s friendship is perhaps especially touching because, at best, they start out as sworn enemies.

2 At some point you have to let go of the past and move on.

The greatest heroines of action and thriller films are called upon to operate in extreme conditions, in terrible and unstable circumstances. What really sets Sydney apart from other ending girls and action heroines is her refusal to let her traumatic haunted past define her. Unlike 2018. halloween a reboot in which Laurie (admittedly perfectly played by Curtis) upstaged her family and withdrew into a life of hiding targets, Sidney of 2022. scream first seen pushing a double stroller on a morning run. The most dedicated fans of the series will notice a subtle hint that Sydney’s husband and father of her children is Mark Kincaid (Patrick Dempsey). Sydney is now married to a charming, burly cop from Scream 3. Motherhood and a happy new life outside of Woodsboro give Sydney new motivation. “I won’t sleep until he’s in the ground,” she says. Chills.

3 Never give in to bullying

Sharp stroke of the original scream The script presents Sydney’s dark haunted past and ominous details surrounding her mother’s violent death. This makes her an outcast in her small town. There is a very sad moment in this picture when two high school girls brutally mock Sydney’s backstory, unaware that she is listening from a toilet stall. Details like this make her agency and arc stronger.

One of the many reasons for turning Jill (Emma Roberts) being a killer in Scream 4(probably the best scream continued, so far) is her misrepresentation of Cousin Sidney’s hard-earned positive image in the media. Jill wants what Sydney has or what she thinks she has, but she doesn’t want to be a real fighter to work for it.

4 Resourcefulness is key

One of the most important features of the final girl is resourcefulness. For example, one of the greatest moments in horror comes. halloween, the film most responsible for the existence of Scream. In the infamous bathroom scene in the 1978 thriller, Sidney’s predecessor Laurie Strode neutralizes the bumbling “Shape” with a makeshift wire hanger weapon. It’s an amazing moment that gets the audience applauding, reinforcing Laurie’s status as a force to be reckoned with, using intelligence instead of brawn. Sydney echoes this ability to think on the fly, with many notable examples being her unexpected impalement of an armed Billy with an umbrella in the original film and her ingenuity with a defibrillator at the end of the film. Scream 4.

One of the most touching examples of Sid’s resourcefulness can be seen at the end of the bloody great Scream 2Where is Mickey the killer?Timothy Olyphant) shoots her innocent boyfriend Derek (Jerry O’Connell) and keeps her at gunpoint. Sid slashes Mickey with Derek’s Greek letters (a recent sign of affection), gaining the upper hand.

5 double tap

Sydney isn’t a fan of horror movies, but she’s lived in them for decades and knows the rules, not the least of which is double-tap. Jamie KennedyRandy lays out many of the most practical horror rules for the uninitiated at the start of the first scream (no sex, no booze, never say “I’ll be right back”), and it’s only near the end that he informs Sydney of the importance of double tapping. As Billy Loomis lies seemingly dead in front of our surviving heroes, Randy whispers to Sydney that this is the moment our killer returns to deliver the final screamer. Sidney ends it with a blow to Billy’s crown, caustically saying, “Not in my movie.”

The tradition continues. IN Scream 2Sydney shoots Mrs. LoomisLaurie Metcalf) twice, “just in case”. She tells Dewey to shoot RomanScott Foley) in the head Scream 3 after he emptied a seemingly countless amount of rounds into his chest. Then, fortunately, Sydney gets a final headshot by Terminator-like Jill Roberts in an underrated movie. Scream 4. It may not be the most universal life lesson Sydney has learned, but for her it is one of the most practical.

6 Sometimes you can argue

Sidney Prescott is a good person who exudes kindness; we see that she is often the first to help a vulnerable person, even at her own risk. She was also never a Mary Sue; she has some hard lines and sharp edges that make her more recognizable as a person, more sympathetic. Among these traits is definitely her salty tongue in stressful situations. Sidney is no stranger to a four-letter word. One of her most quoted moments is the blood-soaked ending of the original film. She states to the killers Billy and Stu, “You sick bastards have seen too many movies.”

In the 2022 film, moments after she reappears on screen, Dewey asks if she has a gun. “I’m Sidney, damn Prescott,” she says. “Of course I have a gun.” This is pure Sydney. Perfect.

7 Never give up

The final girls will forever remain in the hearts of horror lovers, distinguished by their resourcefulness, intelligence and goodness that conquers evil. From truly innovative Kevin Williamson scenario brought to life by Kraven’s hard, terrorizing touch, original scream there were very original hooks such as movie-literate characters and meta-humor balanced with bloody, visceral fears and the mystery of the cloak and dagger. Backed by a strong screenplay that never delved into caricature, Campbell’s naturalistic performance as Sidney was as crucial as anything else to the film’s appeal. Sydney grows stronger and never backs down, despite moments of overwhelming fear and self-doubt that make her more human and close. Events scream the film is extreme, but Sid always seems real.

The meek, intelligent Sydney, introduced in 1996, gradually developed and never gave up, becoming perhaps the most powerful last girl in horror history. Perhaps, let’s hope one day she returns to the role that horror fans appreciate.
