Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom It’s still a couple of months away, but details about the upcoming sequel are starting to emerge from the depths of the ocean. During a recent interview with Hollywood Reporter, James Wan talked about how one of the main plot points of the next installment of the franchise will be connected to one of the biggest problems facing the world today: global warming. This time around, supervillains aren’t the only threat to Aquaman and his allies. Here’s what Wang had to say about the global warming connection to the upcoming film:
I think people will be happy to see that this film is very different from the first film in terms of tone. It’s a little more serious and we’re dealing with issues like climate change. We’re not afraid to rely on it big because Aquaman comics, even once upon a time, have always been environmentally conscious. He has always been the one who fought for the purity of the ocean, and this seems to be more relevant in the world we live in today. So there’s a lot to talk about in this movie, but it’s still a fun fantasy action movie.
Given that the ocean is his home, it would make sense for Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) to try and keep it clean, even if that meant direct confrontations with people living on the surface. Wan adds a second problem to the mix, and the supervillain that threatens the lives of people important to Arthur has yet to be revealed. Knowing the character’s extensive history in the comics, there is no doubt that whoever is chosen as the villain in this story will be a worthy adversary for the ruler of the Seven Seas. Nothing will stop the mighty king of the ocean.
This iteration of the character first appeared during a small cameo in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justicewhen BatmanBen Affleck) stole from Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) personal files. From the looks of it, the villain has been keeping an eye on all the major metahumans hidden in the DC Universe. Aquaman was seen attacking the camera that was looking for him before running away from Luthor’s eyes. It wasn’t until later that Bruce Wayne decided that he needed Arthur’s help to face a threat greater than anything he’d seen before.
Aquaman’s first solo adventure
After helping several heroes defeat Steppenwolf during the events Justice LeagueAquaman had to go on a big personal adventure involving his own family. Since Arthur chose to grow up hidden in the human world, Orm (Patrick Wilson) took the throne. Arthur’s brother wanted to take power for his own convenience and declare war on the human world. The desire to take over the land did not sit well with Arthur, who had to overcome his personal feelings for Atlantis in order to prevent his brother from starting a war that he did not know how to deal with.
