A new family reality show is coming to Hulu. Disney-supported streamer will present Secrets and Sisterhood: Creations June 7th. All 10 episodes of the first season will be released on the same day. The show follows the lives of 10 American Muslim sisters living in Los Angeles. Viewers will see the close-knit family trying to adjust to life in the States, as well as navigate their cultural expectations, relationships, and careers. Some of the sisters were born in Afghanistan before their parents fled in the 1980s, while the rest were born in America. The trailer for the new series was released on Wednesday.
Meet the Sozada sisters from the new Hulu reality show
With 10 sisters, it will take a little time to figure out who is who. PEOPLE provided a summary of each sister. The oldest of the group is Shaista, a restaurateur and head of the sister team. Halima is involved in political movements and gives voice to the community. Rabya also devotes time to finding a better society, with a particular focus on improving the lot of those suffering from poverty. Khadija is a mother, like Muzlefa. The youngest in the family, Hamida, has a degree in psychology and works as a psychotherapist.
Shakur has an entrepreneurial spirit, she creates a documentary series about her family, and also works in real estate, flipping houses and building complexes and commercial buildings. Jamilia works in the medical field as a personal assistant and is also in business running Society in Scrubs, a clothing styling company for health and wellness professionals. Siddiqa also works in the medical world as a registered nurse and is actively involved in community life, raising funds to support refugees. The path in real estate and entrepreneurship continues with Nureya, who emphasizes participation in housing and sports start-ups.
Trailer hints at sisters’ controversial lifestyles
Discussed throughout the trailer is a slight split in the family due to different upbringings in Afghanistan and America. Nureya says in the trailer that the older sisters came from a conservative family that changed when they ended up in the States for the younger sisters. The younger group calls themselves the “Wolf Pack”.
there is a certain Keep up with the Kardashians feel like in a trailer, so time will tell if the sisters will have the same effect. The two shows apparently share a story of kinship and different perspectives within the family. One of the sisters even mentions off-screen that she thought filming a reality show with her family would be fun, but that might not be the case.
Secrets and Sisterhood: Creations will be one of several new unscripted shows coming to Hulu. There are two more shows that have been booked on the platform. Love in Fairhope, which will tell about five generations of women in a small town in Alaska. Also will Ohio royal rulesseries about three Ghanaian sisters in their early twenties, each living in Ohio.
