Editor’s Note: The following are spoilers for The Great Ones season 3.Hulu Historical Drama Great just released its third season and it’s no wonder fans want more. While not entirely true, the story follows Catherine the Great in Russia (Elle Fanning) in her rise to power, when she overthrows her husband and tries to bring change to the country. The satirical show offers a unique and gory take on the events without relying too much on the history of the story. Three seasons have already absorbed a lot, but there is more to tell. While the fourth season remains an unconfirmed streamer, the show has a lot of exciting plots packed into it that could influence the new season.

Now that Katherine is in complete control of the situation and demonstrates a talent for management, she will make enemies for herself. In fact, she may have already done so. There seems to be no end to Russia’s problems in the show, so there should be enough conflict to keep the show going for as long as the streamer wants. Surely this could fill another season with blood and betrayal.

The end of Season 3 shows Katherine taking charge much more ruthlessly, including ordering Archie (Adam Godley) to be buried alive for attempted betrayal. Katherine has always had a strained relationship with the faith, and especially with Archie, so it’s no surprise that he was the first to feel her wrath. Luckily for him, Archie still has a friend in his cousin Marial (Phoebe Fox), who finds and saves him before he suffocates. Although Archie survived, he would not be welcomed again in court, and his anger at Katherine would not fade soon. Going underground, he can begin to actively work against Catherine, no longer remaining in the shadows.

Marial was promoted to Councilor at the end of Season 3. Although he and Katherine were friends for most of Catherine’s time in Russia, they had difficult moments. However, having finally reconciled, Katherine may want to confide in another woman, which is likely to be a mistake. Katherine’s order to forcefully execute Archie may be enough to end their friendship, whether Katherine realizes it or not. With Marial given her own position as advisor, she could become yet another person Katherine can’t trust and can avenge her cousin.

Will Katherine ever find out what happened to Orlo?

The first of many deaths in the third season was longtime advisor Katherine Orlo (Sasha Dhawan). As one of the few savvy politicians who agreed with Catherine’s changes, he was an important ally to her when she won the throne. Although Orlo died during the season premiere, the other characters are still largely unaware of his death, making it a weak thread. Despite the fact that she killed him herself, Katherine is still unaware that Orlo is dead.

Working on their relationship, Catherine and Peter (Nicholas Hoult) to take their son Pavel hunting. Hearing a rustle, Katherine fires, but thinks she missed. However, it was Orlo in the bushes trying to kill Peter. The bears destroyed the body before they saw it. Later, when discussing Orlo, Katherine believes that he ran away, as he disappeared shortly after their disagreement. If the truth comes out, it could cause Catherine great pain or lead to new political enemies. The change in character may prevent her from feeling guilty despite the friendship between her and Orlo, but if Russia finds out that she has killed one of her closest allies, they will be afraid of her - or Orlo’s family may be working against Catherine. In any case, it will certainly be an interesting topic to continue in the fourth season.

Georgina’s conspiracy against Katherine

Georgina (Charity Wakefield) and Katherine were never friends, although she tricked Katherine into believing they were friends. In the Season 3 finale, Georgina begins a new plan inspired by King Hugo of Sweden (Freddie Fox). The idea is to marry Catherine’s young son, gaining his rights to the throne in the same way that Catherine did. Georgina then hopes to overthrow Catherine and rule Russia herself.

Georgina’s marriage was derailed when Archie was called to his execution, but Georgina is unlikely to give in so easily. There will no doubt be a new priest coming to the castle, and Georgia will try to manipulate him into helping her with her plan. Georgina’s quest for power will no doubt play a part in any sequel to the series, and another coup will set up a lot of action in season four.

Russia does not like Catherine

The third season tells about the rebellion of the lower class, who hate Catherine and her rule. Although the instigator, Pugachev (Nicholas Hoult), was killed, the feelings did not disappear. Catherine took steps to win over the people by calling the comet a sign from God, but the hatred shown during the rebellion cannot be dispelled overnight. She sends the military to quell the rebellion, but it is not easily put down, posing yet another threat to Catherine’s rule.

Catherine is still at odds with the church, and her desire to reform Russia is still controversial. Since that was her goal in taking the crown, it seems inevitable that her changes will be central to the show now that she is in power. With a better understanding of the country, she may be able to manipulate her path to Russian enlightenment, but not without resistance. If the series moves forward, Catherine’s quest to change Russia could make more headway than ever before.

All of these things could be resolved in the new season if the show gets a chance. From half-defeated uprisings to new enemies waiting to be struck, the fourth season could be filled with just as much manipulation and gore as the first three. In addition, the continuation of the show could solve the fact that the historical figure had other children and lovers who have not yet appeared. Although Great does not claim historical accuracy, sometimes coincides with reality. Catherine the Great ruled Russia for a long time, which means the series version should have enough stories to fill another season.

All three seasons of the series Great now available for streaming on Hulu.
