You might think that there is nothing scarier than waves of the infected making their way through the streets, seeking to spread the Cordyceps virus to everyone in sight. Variety reports that the filming of the new episodes has not yet begun, but preparations for the casting of new characters are already underway. The team behind the series used scenes directly from the video games as the scripts for the second season had not yet been completed.
Even if production on the show’s second season hadn’t been put on hold, this method of audition might not have produced the quality of performance needed for new faces. Last of us. Part of what created the connection between Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) so special was the way they communicated with each other, masterfully written Craig Mazin And Neil Druckmann. In the 2013 television adaptation of the popular video game, Joel is left hopeless after he loses his daughter on the first night of the Cordyceps outbreak, when the world was brought to its knees by an unstoppable force in the form of the infected. When he is assigned to protect Ellie as they travel across the country, Joel realizes that this is his second chance to love and protect his daughter’s figure, even if he had to lie to her to protect her. The first season ended with a cliffhanger where Ellie didn’t know what really happened on the night that a cure was to be created from her DNA.
The show is not a literal adaptation of the games
While fans of the original video games already have a clear idea of where the story will go, HBO takes many creative liberties with their adaptation, changing details from the world Last of us if they couldn’t translate well into the new medium and flesh out the stories they couldn’t in the previous format. Even if someone has played the second game of the franchise many times, they can still find surprises when it comes to a TV show that keeps everyone on their toes. It remains to be seen if Ellie finds out what really happened to her in the season one finale, or when, or if Joel keeps it hidden from her for as long as he can.
