- Ridley Scott Napoleon box office receipts exceed $200 million.
- The streaming version of the film will delve deeper into the relationship between Napoleon and Josephine and will run over four hours. The impact of this extended cut on the film’s overall reception remains uncertain.
- The cast includes Tahar Rahim, Ben Miles and Rupert Everett, with Scott directing from a script by David Scarpa. Napoleon is set to premiere on Apple TV+, although a release date has not yet been announced.
Ridley Scott’s Napoleon surpassed the $200 million mark at the global box office. Joaquin Phoenix And Vanessa Kirby Starrer had an international gross of $141.1 million and a domestic gross of $59.6 million, bringing its worldwide gross to $200.7 million. The film was supposed to have a short theatrical run before arriving on Apple TV. It received mostly mixed reviews, with praise for the action scenes and performances and criticism for the historical inaccuracies.
Napoleon focuses on the life and conquests of the French Emperor, told from the perspective of his relationship with Empress Josephine (Kirby), and how that relationship affected his plans as a whole. Scott took a lot of liberties, but overall this feature covers three decades of the conqueror’s life, personal and historical aspects, with an impressive performance by Phoenix.
There’s a lot more to see in the streaming version
Considering that this film has an extensive narrative, the streaming version will show a lot more chemistry between Napoleon and Josephine. Previously, the director said that the streaming version lasts more than four hours: “And this is what will happen, we will show [the theatrical cut] first with Sony, and then it takes off, and then the best thing is that [the director’s cut] goes to streaming and we have four hours and 10 minutes,” he said, although it’s unclear whether he intends to cut his extended cut of the film further. The film has a 58 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, but it remains to be seen whether Scott shrugs off the critics by reminding fans that most epics of this kind take historical liberties.
Bringing Scott’s vision to life Tahar Rahim like Paul Barras Ben Miles like Caulaincourt, Matthew Needham like Lucien Bonaparte Youssef Kerkour like Marshal Davout, Rupert Everett as Arthur Wellesley, Duke of Wellington, and Paul Rees like Talleyrand. Further rounding out the cast: Catherine Walker, Gavin Spokes, John Hollingworth, Mark Bonnar, Sam Craneand many others. Scott is directing from a script written by David Scarpa. He also produced the Apple Studios film under his Scott Free Productions banner along with Phoenix. Kevin J. Walsh And Mark Huffam. Among the executive producers Aidan Elliot And Michael Pruss.
