Kerry Washington And Delroy Lindo remain on Hulu as the streamer and Onyx Collective renewed the original series. Unprisoned for a second season, as Deadline first reported. News of the renewal comes just over eight months after the show first debuted in March. The film premiered to positive reception from critics and the general public, with the former currently holding a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and the latter 94%. It is also Onyx’s most-watched premiere on Hulu. Along with the series renewal, Washington renewed her overall contract with ABC Signature.
Unprisoned was created Tracy McMillan, inspired by her real-life relationship with her father. The story centers on Paige Alexander (Washington), a successful therapist and single mother who finds herself thrown into disarray when her father Edwin (Lindo) is released from prison. After his imprisonment, Edwin soon moves in with Paige and her teenage son Finn (Fali Rakotohavana). While the trio adjusts to the changes, Edwin tries to reconnect with Paige and mend his relationship with Finn. In the meantime, he does his best to pave a better path for himself. Viewers will also learn more about Paige’s childhood with Edwin.
How Unprisoned As the first season ended, Paige, Edwin, and Finn began to find a strong foundation for each other, despite the family drama and other obstacles they faced. However, several events threatened to upend their progress: Edwin eventually left Paige and Finn and caused a rift between mother and son, as Finn became deeply attached to Edwin and Paige was wary of their connection. Meanwhile, Edwin is faced with another big decision: go it alone or seek help from his friends who previously caused him trouble. Edwin eventually reunites with one of his friends. However, the episode ended on a very controversial note, leaving Edwin’s plans up in the air.
