October was an exceptionally busy month in family medicine departments and hospital emergency departments. As doctors emphasize, it cannot be denied that colds are the most common and we are not talking about accelerating the flu season.
– Infections have started, this can be seen, for example, in hospital emergency departments. We have more colds, isolated flus, and more Covids. Viral infections are attributed to the autumn season, the start of the infection season has been delayed due to the long summer. The weather favors an increase in the number of bacteria and viruses, says Karina Witkiewicz, pulmonologist, expert at the District Medical Chamber in Szczecin, quoted in the OIL press release.
Is it COVID season? “There are no severe infections.”
As Karina Vitkevich adds, we are now at the end of the period of formation of immunity to influenza. She also noted an increase in coronavirus cases. – COVID season is the season of infections. There are no serious infections, so there can be no talk of a pandemic or such destructive viruses as in 2020-2021. We have symptoms such as sore throat, muscle pain and fever. “So this is a standard breakdown, and not such a severe course of the disease as what we know from the pandemic,” he says.
Colds can’t be ignored
Doctors pay special attention to not ignoring colds, which have become worse recently. – If you ignore a cold, it can lead to serious health consequences. So even if we’re not talking about the actual start of flu season, we can certainly feel like we’re not feeling well and these “day trips” can seriously impede our functioning. Moreover, this does not exclude the possibility of catching the flu in the following days. In the fall, we simply need to take more care of our health. This is also the last call to get vaccinated, says Michal Bulsa, president of the District Medical Council in Szczecin.
Experts advise not only getting a flu shot, but also remembering basic hygiene rules that will help minimize the risk of infection: first of all, wash your hands frequently and ventilate the premises.
