Ten years have passed since the release Pacific Rim, and soon fans will be able to get back to drifting on the biggest screen. In honor of its 10th anniversary, Guillermo del Toro teased in a recent tweet that he is in talks with Legendary Pictures to re-release the film in IMAX 3D for just one weekend in Los Angeles.

While there has been no official confirmation on Twitter, it does show that del Toro is still committed to bringing the film back in premium formats so that fans can see its kaiju-sized action as it should have been. Initially debuting in theaters in the summer of 2013, Pacific Rim focuses on the global conflict that humanity must face against giant monsters using manned giant mechanical suits. As the film may return to the big screen, fans will be able to relive their favorite moments in all their breathtaking beauty in IMAX 3D.

Despite disappointing domestic ticket sales, Pacific Rim turned out to resonate with a global audience, earning over $411 worldwide back in 2013. The film’s success led to the development of a sequel with del Toro to return before it was eventually dropped and reworked into Pacific Rim: Uprising by director Stephen S. DeKnight, which was negatively received by critics and disappointed at the box office. However, the franchise continued into the realm of streaming with the release of Pacific Rim: Blackanime series on Netflix.

Although del Toro was never able to lead his own sequel Pacific Rimthe director continues to achieve success with a number of critically acclaimed films, notable examples being water shape in 2017, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture, and its stop-motion adaptation Pinocchiowhich recently won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.

After newfound success in animation, del Toro plans to direct a film adaptation Kazuo IshiguroX Buried Giant using the same frame-by-frame animation technique as in Pinocchio, with production expected to begin sometime this year. In addition, del Toro will dive into another classic story with his own adaptation. Frankensteinwhich will serve as a passion project for the director, with Oscar Isaac, Andrew GarfieldAnd Mia Goth in star negotiations. With so much in store, fans of the acclaimed director have a lot to look forward to in the coming years.
