“I always ask myself why I’m not at the front”: Alan Badoev admitted his fears

Must read

Director and music video director Alan Badoev, who shot the documentary project “Dovgae Day” with real footage of the war through the eyes of ordinary Ukrainians, frankly answered why he himself is still not at the front.

“I won’t lie to myself. I always ask myself why I am not at the front. Why didn’t I take up arms? Scary? Very scary. What’s the worst thing? A lot of things are scary. And then I tell myself “if you are not there, do something so that you forgive yourself for it.” And if I don’t do this, I won’t be able to treat myself normally. I can ask myself the most uncomfortable questions because I work with them,” – Alan said in an interview with Alexey Sukhanov.

The director also does not understand why, after a full-scale invasion, all his Russian friends and people with whom he worked a lot do not feel the pain that the Ukrainians experienced and remain cowardly silent. According to Alan, at the beginning of the war he was offered to move to Russia.

“It was some kind of SMS like “come to Moscow, we will do everything for you.” This crushed me very much. What is the value of everything you did before you were 42 and who are you? I thought for a long time about what I could do for my country, for myself, and so the idea of the documentary project “Long Days” appeared. I understood that all these telegram channels would very soon turn into white noise. It is necessary that this capsule of this time be formed and remain in the form of a very understandable narrative,” – Badoev shared.

He believes that in the current conditions, the stars of Ukrainian show business need to reboot and set priorities, understand what is Ukrainian and what is simply the consequences of propaganda.

Everyone understands everything. Justifications like “I’m not so comfortable, I want to be friends with Russians, this is how my work is structured” get in the way. But there is a plus – a lot is changing. We don’t need to look at people who pull us back, we need to look forward. Because in this purge you can get lost. Atavisms always die anyway,” – Alan noted.
