James Gunn officially appointed to lead the upcoming Superman: Legacy for DC Studios and Warner Bros. It was previously announced that Suicide Squad The director will write the script for a new version of Man of Steel. But now Gunn will sit behind the camera and shoot the long-awaited blockbuster. The actor who will wear the cape and pantyhose has yet to be chosen. As the studio went through a major restructuring process, it was confirmed that Henry Cavill will not return as an iconic superhero, instead the project will focus on a younger version of Clark Kent trying to balance his life as a superhero and as a journalist at the Daily Planet.
Tom Kingwho is a veteran DC comics writer, previously hinted during an interview that Gunn would be the director Superman: Legacy. Given how passionate the director is behind guardians of the galaxy As for his script for the upcoming Superman adaptation, today’s official confirmation shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. King wrote a comic book miniseries called Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, a print run that would serve as inspiration for a film dedicated to Kal-El’s cousin, set in the same universe as Gunn’s film. In this story, Supergirl has a very different perspective on humanity than Clark, after growing up watching the horrors of war tearing the galaxy apart.
In addition to learning to cope with his two jobs, the film will also see the character explore how his heritage as a Kansas farmer and son of Krypton helped him become who he is and what that means for his future. Similar to other stories by James Gunn such as peacemaker, the protagonist will have to come to terms with who his parents are and what he can do to create his own story. The film is set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025, which coincidentally coincided with Gunn’s late father’s birthday.
The future of DC looks bright
Biggest doubt about whether Gunn will direct Heritage or not due to the fact that he is very busy with his position as co-president of DC Studios, along with Peter Safran. Back in January, the couple announced part of the first chapter of the new DC Universe, including theatrical films, TV streaming shows, animated series and video games. The tablet called “Gods and Monsters” will contain a lot of content in the second half of this decade. Superman: Legacy be just the first step of a franchise that will include characters like Swamp Thing And Powers.
