I’m inflexible scream fan and, yes, I can be very dear to my favorite movie franchise. But there’s no denying the fact that things have to evolve to justify continuing the series, and that’s exactly what the directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gilletteand the rest of the team does with Creek VI.

The new movie takes place shortly after the events scream 2022. Surviving Amber (Mikey Madison) and Richie (Jack Quaid) bloodbath, Sam (Melissa Barrera), Tara (Jenna Ortega), Chad (Mason Gooding) and Mindy (Jasmine Savoy Brown) decided to leave Woodsboro and start a new life in New York. But as we all know very well, there is no escaping Ghostface, and sure enough, a killer shows up in the Big Apple to thwart Core Four’s attempt to start over and move forward.

COLLIDER VIDEO OF THE DAY

WITH Creek VI Releasing in theaters across the country on Friday, March 10th, I got the opportunity to meet with Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett for a spoiler-free interview to tease what to expect from the new film. During our conversation, I asked the duo for a fan response to Scream 5 what influenced Creek VI majority. Bettinelli-Olpin began: “I think that we and [writers] Boy [Busick] and Jamie [Vanderbilt], we approach it as fans and like, what would we like to see? So in a way it’s a reaction to our own reaction, which is also the reaction of the fans.”

So what was their top priority for Creek VI after creation/view Scream 5 like the fans in the first place? Gillette replied, “To surprise ourselves.” He continued:

“I think it was such a surprise that scream come back to do it and I think we just knew that as warm and comforting and such a tribute to the last one, we had to make a very sharp left turn for the next one, just to keep from losing ourselves. interesting, right? To keep yourself involved and surprised. It has always been a compass; what excites, amuses and excites us? And hopefully people love the same.

After watching the movie, I can confirm that the compass pointed to Gillett, Bettinelli-Olpin & Co. in the right direction. Creek VI certainly respects the franchise’s pillars, but the new installment has its own unique feel for a number of reasons, two of which are the brutality and outrageous emotion of the attack/kill sequences, and the complexity that Barrera’s character brings to the game. world.

You can experience Gillette and Bettinelli-Olpin’s “hard left turn” at Creek VI in theaters this weekend, and you can watch my full spoiler-free conversation with the directorial duo in the video at the top of this article.

Stay tuned for a 30 minute spoiler talk with Gillett, Bettinelli-Olpin and the producer. Chad Villella soon!
