The Oscar is the most prestigious award in the industry. A victory can change a person’s life, marking a turning point in their career or recognition of their career as a whole. For their part, the Razzies are the opposite, an award designed to “recognize” the worst in cinema.
Some actors were lucky enough to be nominated for an Oscar; others are unfortunate enough to see themselves targeted by Razi. There are those who have Oscar and Razzy nominations on their resumes. And then, some received both nominations in the same year; talk about a balanced career.
9 Christopher Walken, 2003
The new millennium began chaotically for Christopher Walken. The actor played one of his best roles in Steven Spielberg2002 biopic Catch Me If You Canplaying the covertly deceiving Frank Abagnale Sr. Vlaken, received rave reviews, winning SAG and BAFTA awards for Best Supporting Actor and earning a well-deserved Oscar nomination in the same category.
The same year, Walken starred in a box office flop. Bear Countrywhile playing the main villain. The film received negative reviews, with critics finding it boring and tortuous. Walken was nominated for a Razzie Award for Best Supporting Actor but did not win.
8 Alec Baldwin, 2004
Alec Baldwin received his first and only Oscar nomination for his supporting role in a 2003 crime film. Cooler. The plot centers on Bernie Lutz, a Las Vegas spinner whose bad luck brings bad luck to gamblers. When Bernie’s love life turns around and brings him happiness, his ruthless boss, “Shelley” Kaplow, seeks to end it abruptly. Baldwin Kaplow’s portrayal was praised and won him an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.
Unfortunately, another Baldwin release from 2003, Cat in a bagreceived scathing reviews. The film, widely regarded as one of the worst Dr. Seuss adaptations of all time, received numerous nominations for the 2004 Razzies, including Worst Supporting Actor for Baldwin.
7 Sandra Bullock, 2010
Sandra Bullock has the rare distinction of being one of the few to win an Oscar and a Razzie in the same year, though not for the same role. Bullock won first place for her role in the 2009 sports drama. Blind areawhere she played Lee Ann Tuohy.
Razzie came to her for her infamous work in the 2009 comedy. All about Steve. For her role as a socially awkward woman chasing a cameraman, Bullock received scathing reviews, many considering it the worst performance of her career. True to her honest and graceful nature, Bullock appeared at Razzie’s ceremony and accepted her award.
6 Eddie Redmayne, 2016
A year after receiving his first Oscar for his work in Theory of everything, Eddie Redmayne returned to the Dolby Theatre. The English actor competed at the 2016 ceremony for the title role in the biopic. Danish girl, playing Lili Elbe, a Danish artist who was one of the first to undergo gender reassignment surgery. Redmayne’s work hasn’t aged, and the actor recently admitted that accepting the role was “a mistake.”
2016 was also the year he received his first Razzie nomination. Redmayne’s polarizing performance Jupiter Ascending received negative reviews and the actor won a Razzie Award for Worst Supporting Actor. Bye Jupiter Ascending far from perfect, giving him a win might be too much.
5 Rooney Mara, 2016
In 2016, another famous actor received Oscar and Razzy nominations. Rooney Mara showed the best result in his career Todd Haynescaptivating romantic drama Carol. The actress received a Best Supporting Actress nomination, which is a clear case of Oscar fraud since Mara stars in the film, plain and simple. However, she lost the award Alicia Vikanderanother case of category scam.
Another release from Mary in 2015, Joe WrightX Pot, was less successful. Mara faced whitewashing allegations for accepting the role of Tiger Lily, and the film received scathing reviews from critics. Although Mara should not have accepted the role, her performance was not bad enough to justify Razzie’s nomination.
4 Naomie Harris, 2017
Forever underrated Naomie Harris surpasses Barry JenkinsRomantic drama 2016. Moonlight. As Chiron’s mother, Harris is cruel, portraying heartbreaking cruelty and regret, earning her a well-deserved Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
Harris was also nominated at the 2016 Razzie Awards, though not individually. Instead, Harris received a nomination as part of an ensemble of manipulative and formulaic Will Smith drama Associated beauty. Harris’s nod made it into the Worst Screen Matching category, where “an entire cast of once respected actors” competed.
3 Adam McKay, 2019
Adam McKay one of the most controversial figures in Hollywood. Many appreciate its humor and tone, while others consider it overpriced and somewhat cheap. His 2018 film VICE was one of the most controversial films of the year; however, it received eight nominations for the 2019 Oscars, including a Best Picture nomination and a Best Director nomination for McKay.
The prolific director and producer had another film in 2018, Will Ferrell vehicle, Holmes and Watson. The film received extremely negative reviews and received six Razzies nominations. as one of Holmes and Watsonproducers, McKay won the Razzie Award for Worst Picture.
2 Melissa McCarthy, 2019
In 2018, another Oscar-Razzy combo came to life. Melissa McCarthy earned rave reviews for her emotional, rough play in Marielle Hellerblack comedy biopic Can you ever forgive me? For her portrayal of writer Leigh Israel, McCarthy received the best reviews of her career, receiving an Oscar nomination for Best Actress.
However, McCarthy has also drawn huge backlash for her other 2018 crime comedy releases. Happy Kills and comedy Sole of company. The former received six nominations at the 2019 Razzies, while McCarthy received the Worst Actress award for her work in both films.
1 Glenn Close, 2020
Glenn Close has received eight Oscar nominations in her long and revered career. Her last appearance was due to her ancillary work in controversy. Ron Howard drama Hillbilly Elegy, an adaptation of the novel of the same name. The film polarized critics, although Close received mostly positive reviews, leading to an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
Close’s detractors also found her performance worthy of a Razzie and nominated her in the Worst Supporting Actress category. Close is the third person to receive Oscar and Razzie nominations for the same performance; however, she did not receive any awards.
