The sale opportunity arises in connection with the new strategy of the head to improve the financial position of the company. Taking over from Bob Chapek as CEO last year, Iger was determined to get Disney back on track in the wake of the pandemic’s impact on the entertainment industry as a whole. As part of its strategy, the company’s leader has announced three sequels to some of the studio’s most popular animation franchises: toy story, Zootopia And frozen.
Hulu, which currently has about 47 million subscribers worldwide, is owned by Disney and Comcast. In the same interview, Iger said that perhaps selling Disney’s stake in the platform would be easier than trying to buy Comcast’s stake in the pie: “It’s all on the table now,” Iger said Thursday. He added that leverage isn’t a concern for Disney right now, though the company “intends to reduce our debt over time.” The platform is known for shows such as how i met your father, Only murders in the building and recently canceled Reload.
Disney needs a new streaming strategy as Disney+ lost subscribers for the first time since launching in the last fiscal quarter. The platform behind shows how moon knight And Ms. Marvel was introduced to the market in November 2019 and has been successfully using the well-known brands and franchises of the company since then. It is not yet known if the upcoming third season will be released. The Mandalorian, which will premiere on March 1, will be able to attract new subscribers to Disney+. The platform, along with Hulu and ESPN+, represents Disney’s streaming assets.
