After the merger with Paramount+, Showtime entered the franchise business. His longest show Billionshas four spin-offs in development, including Millions And trillions. It is reported by Entertainment Weekly. Millions will be a spin-off aimed at young newbies in the high-stakes world of high finance, while trillions will reportedly be more of a soapy exploration of the mega-rich, akin to Dallas or Dynasty. There are also spin-offs in the works set in Miami and London; their full concepts are still in development.
The so-called “expanded universe” approach follows the pattern of Paramount’s biggest hit, yellowstonewho expanded her universe with a series of prequels 1883 And 1923and will soon expand further with Bass Reeves And 6666. This twist was foreshadowed last month when the new head of Showtime Chris McCarthy stated, “We have already begun discussions with our production partners about what content makes sense to move forward and what shows have franchise potential.” It also follows a post-Showtime merger culling period when many of the network’s younger series, including american gigolo And Let the right one inwere canceled
The move comes at an interesting time for Billions, which has now become Showtime’s longest-running series. The show, which debuted in 2016, follows a rivalry between unscrupulous hedge fund manager Bobby Axelrod (Damien Lewis) and US Attorney Chuck Rhodes (Paul Giamatti), and their incessant attempts to destroy each other - or at least that was the case until Lewis left the series after season 5. Axelrod was written out of the series by fleeing to Switzerland and his role in his hedge fund (and in the series) was given to Michael Prince (Corey Stoll) in season 6, which ended last spring. Despite these upheavals, the series continues to be a Showtime ratings winner, with its seventh season debuting later this year. Showtime’s exploration of an entire galaxy of spin-offs is, of course, another vote of confidence in the program. Billions are also stars Maggie Siff, David Costabile, Condola Rashad, Asia Kate Dillon, Jeffrey DeMann, Daniel BreakerAnd Sakina Jeffery.
Spin-off series to be executive produced Billions co-authors Brian Koppelman And David Levien. The duo have been under a production contract with Showtime since 2019.
BillionsThe seventh season will premiere later this year on Showtime. Stay tuned for updates on Collider.
