The new school year is in full swing and abbot elementary welcomes a new member to its ranks. In accordance with Entertainment Weekly, Bear star Ayo Edebiri joins the current second season in a recurring role. Edebiri will play Aisha, Janine’s sister. She will be featured on this week’s Valentine’s Day episode.
Throughout the show JanineQuinta Brunson) sometimes mentioned Aisha, although she spoke little about her sister. From what Janine shared, viewers know that she has a slightly strained relationship with Aisha, who lives quite far away. Aisha also has a strained relationship with her mother, which puts additional strain on the shoulders of Janine, whose relationship with their mother is also strained. In a recent episode, Janine, after some resistance, calls Aisha and says she wants her to visit her.
The new clip featured by EW in the same article gives an idea of what to expect from Aisha and Janine. And, thanks to their awkward FaceTime call, it seems like the kryptonite of Janine’s ubiquitous optimism is her sister. She calls to wish Aisha a happy birthday, but neither seems to be excited about talking to the other. Jacob (Chris Perfetti) joins but does not understand their dynamics. Afterwards, Janine talks a bit about the length of the conversation, further emphasizing that she seemed to be doing it more out of a sense of duty than a genuine desire to talk to Aisha. While this first appearance is brief, Aisha will have a larger storyline later in the season.
The action takes place in an underfunded public school in Philadelphia. abbot elementary follows a group of teachers and their principal who strive to give their students the best education they are capable of. This is a mockumentary-style series that offers a humorous look at very real issues. Unlike the first season, this season focuses more on the personal lives of the teachers. After getting to know Aisha, viewers can learn even more about Janine’s family. The show was created and written by Brunson as well as the stars. Since the show’s debut in 2021, it has become a comedy darling of critics and the general public alike, quickly gaining praise at the start of its first season. Prior to the premiere of season 2, ABC increased the number of episodes of the show from 13 to 22. So far, season 2 has continued to build on the success of the show, surpassing season 1 in viewership. In the awards arena, the show has received several nominations for Emmy Awards, Critics’ Choice Awards, Screen Actors Guild Awards, Golden Globes, and several others. In particular, he has won three Emmy awards and most recently brought home three Golden Globes, among other things. Earlier this year, the show was renewed for a 3rd season, which begins in the second half of the current season.
