Pedro Pascal placed Saturday night life with musical guest cold game this weekend, and he did something special for me - he played two Italian characters. The first is famous Italian plumber Mario Mario in a sketch for HBO’s fake Super Mario Bros. series. And the second is an Italian waiter at Antonio’s Real Italian restaurant. Which, when you think about it, is incredibly true of what it’s like to go to an Italian restaurant.

To be clear, I am Italian. So when I say this is a representation for me, I mean my ancestors who knew that one day I would write about them. Saturday night life sketches for life. This is, of course, a joke, but I’m sure my Italian grandfather is not surprised. But many times I’ve gone to an Italian restaurant, and the minute they find out I’m one of them, they tell me how beautiful I am, and it works - I give more tips, which is the whole point of the sketch.

Antonio’s staff knows how to make sure they get a lot of tips, but they do it at someone else’s expense and it creates a chaotic girl’s night out for this group of friends. Mainly because the staff chooses one girl who simply cannot be called beautiful.

Sara Sherman plays a prank on a woman at dinner with friends. When everyone goes to eat, they are met by a waiter (Pascal) who compliments everyone by calling them beautiful, except for Sherman. He says she is smart. Later he does the same, but this time she is funny. And so it goes on for a while, with all her friends being praised for how beautiful they are, while she stays out of the conversation and gets angrier and angrier, and rightly so.

It is then revealed that the reason the waiters choose one of the friends for the taunts is because they realized that all the other friends would give them the best tip because of the compliments and so it’s just for profit. So while it’s mean, it’s fun to watch Sherman get aggressively angry at the thought that she’s not one of the pretty ones in her group of friends. So she leaves on a Harley, eating the chili they gave her instead of the delicious meal all her friends got.
