Pedro Pascal placed Saturday night life with musical guest cold game and showed the world how funny he is! The world met Pascal’s character Charlie, a man who was hit by a Party City bus and couldn’t remember who he was or who his loved ones were. However, instead of still sounding like Charlie, he sounded like he was from Los Angeles… Kenan Thompson called it “the Los Angeles mess”.

Heidi Gardner played Charlie’s wife who tried to explain to Dr. Jim (Bowen Yan) that Charlie doesn’t usually sound like he has Silver Lake porridge, and showed a video of how Charlie sounded before the accident. Even Charlie’s sister (played by Sara Sherman) tried to address her brother to make him remember who he was. Thompson played Charlie’s best friend in the sketch; and along with Charlie’s wife and sister, these three were, in fact, the only ones who saw how strange it was that Charlie suddenly had an LA accent, as the doctor kept saying it was normal that it happened.

To be honest, it was one of the strongest sketches of the evening thanks to the weird premise. Listening to a bunch of adults chatting out of the corner of their mouths is endlessly fun, who knew?

One of the best moments of the skit comes when Charlie is shown who he was before the accident and Pascal responds by saying that he was the hottest man he had ever seen. Looking at yourself. In video. To be honest, he’s not wrong, and we love the self-confidence. It’s funny how Pascal’s Charlie can’t stop pleasing himself, even though the stakes for his friends and family are incredibly high.

Charlie is finally starting to get his voice back (or at least his normal voice), but as he starts to regress, Dr. Jim suggests that everyone meet Charlie where he is, and so the entire cast talks with a mushy mouth, everyone still wondering why Charlie wants to “put a pin” on everything. Seeing Gardner and Pascal struggle not to laugh during the sketch is one of the reasons it works so well.

When SNL makes fun sketches like this week’s Mario Kart sketch, it’s important to remember and appreciate the editorial team who help make this possible and who are currently fighting for fair contracts with NBC.
