The history of teen movies is very long. Although the genre peaked in the 80s, it has been a mainstay of cinema since the inception of this medium. The teen genre has gone through a lot of changes to become exciting, mature and kin - with teenagers in the spotlight. These films often evoke a sense of fun that draws viewers in as they explore themes of adjustment, first love, and finding one’s identity. Every year has its fair share of teen movies, and 2023 is no exception.
In addition to being aimed at a younger audience, teen films allow older viewers to relive their teenage years through the stories and characters depicted in these films. The distinctive and interesting mix of the genre of comedy, drama, action and fantasy may be the reason for its popularity, and there will be many exciting films for teenagers in 2023.
10/10 “Teen Wolf: The Movie”
Jeff Davis has created another gripping supernatural drama that sees the Beacon Hills wolf pack take on a new evil. With the rise of this threat, the only true alpha werewolf, Scott McCall, must muster new allies and trusted friends to confront her. To make this story more interesting, he is joined by supernatural beings such as banshees, hellhounds, werkites, and kitsune.
Producer Russell Mulcahy and due to be released on January 26, 2023, the new wolf cub has its original cast Tyler Posey, Shelley Henning, Tyler Hoechlin, Holland Rodenand the surprise return of Crystal Reed as Allison Argent. Although Scott McCall is still an Alpha, he is no longer a teenager; however, this film may introduce a new teen wolf cub to stay true to its name.
9/10 “Scream VI”
Sixth installment scream The franchise will release on March 10, 2023 with yet another terrifying and gripping horror story. Next comes the new Shout. Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Mason Golding and Jasmine Savoy Brown four survivors of the Ghostface murders leave Woodsboro and try to start a new life in New York.
With the author and creator of the original franchise, Kevin Williamson return as executive producer and directors Matt Bettnelly-Olpin and Tyler Gillette of this classic American slasher, many fans are excited to see what this new installment has in store for them. Horror fans are certainly looking forward to a scarier Ghostface and more gory confrontation.
8/10 ‘Mermaid’
In this upcoming American musical fantasy, Ariel, the youngest daughter of King Triton, takes an interest in the overseas world and makes a deal with the evil sea witch Ursula to become human. On land, Ariel falls in love with Prince Charming Eric and gets into trouble.
In this play adaptation of the 1989 Disney animated film directed by Rob Marshall and written by David Magee, the stars Hailey Bailey like Ariel, Jonah Hauer-King like Prince Eric, David Diggs, Melissa McCarthy, Jacob Tremblay, Aquafinaand many others.
7/10 “The Hunger Games: Ballards of Songbirds and Snakes”
After a six-year hiatus since the release of the last part of this sci-fi series, the new part is due out on November 17, 2023. Suzanne Collins’ A novel of the same name, this prequel film tells the story of the charming young Coriolanus Snow before he becomes the tyrannical president of Panem. This follows his plot to help Lucy Grey, a District 12 tribute, win the game.
As with other films in the series, this new film will be set in a futuristic dystopian world with a darker and more violent The Hunger Games. The film will feature an all-star cast, including Viola Davis, Peter Dinklage, Hunter Schafer, Tom Blyth and much more, and they will be led by Francis Lawrence. While some fans may be skeptical about a story centered on the tyrannical President Snow, the film is expected to be an exciting ride. It may even become as popular as the other films in the series.
6/10 “Graduation Pact”
Written Anthony Lombardo and under the guidance Anya Adams, graduation pact follows the history of a feminist (Peyton Elizabeth Lee), who only cares about getting into Harvard and doesn’t believe in the idea of falling in love, but ends up finding herself falling deeply in love. This teen rom-com is slated for release in spring 2023 and could be perfect for fans of teen rom-coms.
After previous shows led by Anya Adamssuch as the Fresh off the boat, Blackand hit Netflix Ginny and Georgiamany expect from this director a colorful and spectacular film. graduation pact The film is expected to cover the teenage experience as it touches on the issues of falling in love and self-discovery.
5/10 “Are you there, God?” It’s me, Margaret
This coming of age comedy based on the 1970 novel Judy Bloom, follows a sixth grader who struggles with issues of religious identity and other common anxieties of early adolescence. The protagonist’s mother is a Christian and her father is Jewish, causing the protagonist to be unsure of his religious affiliation.
Screenwriter and director Kelly Fremon Craig, this upcoming American coming-of-age drama will be released on April 28, 2023. Despite being a light-hearted film for teenagers, it touches on important topics such as religion and sexuality. Despite this, fans Judy Bloom won’t want to miss.
4/10 ‘Barbie’
A Barbie doll living in the world of Barbie is banished from the world for not being perfect enough: Barbie goes on an adventure to find true happiness in the human world.
Oscar-nominated screenwriter and director Greta Gerwigthis upcoming romantic comedy featuring movie stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling along with an impressive ensemble cast. This film, due out on July 21, 2023, has sparked theories and speculation among fans. However, judging by the photos and the trailer released by the film’s producers, it’s safe to say that it’s sure to be visually striking and reminiscent of Barbie’s style.
3/10 “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”
In this epic adventure, Miles Morales joins forces with Gwen Stacy and the other Spider-Men to take on a powerful villain unlike any they have faced before. The newest part of the Oscar-winning spider saga, filmed by the director Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powersand Justin K. Thompsonwill be released June 2, 2023.
Animation 2018, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was praised for its moving story, creative and colorful style, and lovable characters. Fans are looking forward to a similarly impressive story in the upcoming 2023 release. For many viewers, Spider-Verse was the best superhero movie ever made. Now the question is, can this new piece live up to its legacy?
2/10 ‘Wonka’
This fantasy story follows the earliest adventures of young Willy Wonka and how he met an Oompa-Loompa. Not much is known about the plot, but the film will follow the formative years of an eccentric young inventor before he became an inventive chocolatier.
This prequel will be directed by Paul King and written by both King and Simon Farnaby. The film is slated for release on December 15, 2023, so viewers will have to wait a bit before seeing it. Timothy Chalamet like a young and funny Willy Wonka in his iconic top hat and bright jacket.
1/10 “Shazam! Fury of the gods
This superhero story follows Billy Batson, a teenage boy who, after saying the magic word “SHAZAM”, transforms into his adult alter ego, Shazam. In this sequel, Shazam and his family of superheroes must take on the villainous Hespera (Helen Mirren) and Calypso (Lucy Liu) to save the day.
The first Shazam movie was well received, with a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and many hope the new movie will follow in its footsteps. Shazam! Fury of the godsreleases March 17, 2023, so fans won’t have to wait long to see what the new installment has to offer. Asher Angel will play Batson, and Zachary Levy played by his alter ego.
