The trailer introduces the young couple Tyler (Nicholas Hoult), an avid foodie, and Margot (Anya-Taylor Joy), who are heading on a yacht to an exclusive restaurant called Hawthorne. However, this is no ordinary haute cuisine establishment. Located on an uncharted island, the destination restaurant only accepts a limited number of customers and charges $1,250 per person. Anyone who considers himself a culinary connoisseur will find a real gastronomic pleasure in this restaurant, where only the best dishes of molecular cuisine are served.
The cynical Margot is both puzzled and amused by her boyfriend’s fascination with these dishes, which, frankly, don’t look particularly appetizing at first glance. Despite her natural skepticism, she shares Tyler’s excitement. The scene cuts to Chef Slovik (Ralph Fiennes), whose creepy, frightening presence lends new meaning to the phrase “hell’s kitchen.” In the middle of the dinner, things take a strange turn: restaurant staff shoot, electrocute, and stab their customers. But this is no coincidence. Everything from the menu to the guest list has been carefully planned for a night of treats and horror, and leaving the island is not an option.
Who’s on the menu?
Academy Award winner Ralph Fiennes plays Chef Slovik, a culinary genius with dangerous plans up his sleeve. The English actor is an icon of the film industry and has appeared in many films ranging from Steven Spielberg drama Schindler’s list to the stunningly bizarre Hotel Grand Budapest. His roles have earned him many prestigious awards, including the BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actor and the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor.
Chef Slovik is confronted by the headstrong Margo, played by none other than Anya Taylor-Joy. You may have seen her play the villain Gina in the last two seasons of the show. Peaky Blinders or Sandy’s vengeful ghostly apparition Last Night in Soho. But Taylor-Joy is best known for her pioneering role as Beth Harmon in Queen’s Gambit. She is going to play the lead role in forthcoming furiosa movieprequel to the 2015 film Mad Max: Fury Road.
Nicholas Hoult stars as Tyler, one of the few people who actually enjoys overpriced dining at Hawthorne and who seems to be under the impression that the restaurant’s gory shenanigans are just theatrics. Interested in acting from a young age, Holt gained acclaim for playing the bad boy protagonist Tony Stonem in Skins. He went on to play larger roles in films such as Mad Max: Fury Road and X-Men: First Class. Holt was nominated for a BAFTA Film Award and an Emmy Award.
Menu also has an equally talented supporting cast. Hong Chaurecently played a minor role in Darren Aronofskypsychological drama WHALEtakes on the role of Elsa. Tony Award-winning actress Janet McTeerwhich you may have seen in Tumbleweedplayed by Ann. Encantovery own John Leguizamo stars as an unnamed movie star, while Reid Birney from the play People plays Richard. Other notable names include Paul Adelstein, Amy Carrero, Arturo Castro, Mark St. Cyr, Rob Yan, Rebecca Kuhnand Peter Gross. Showing a list of experienced actors and actresses, MenuX the cast list is as tasty as it gets.
