Seventh episode of the series Dragon House titled driftmark went on the air, and the mess Westeros finds itself in only seems to deepen. A real fiasco, right? The episode began with the grim funeral of Laena Velarion (Nanna Blondell) with her entire family gathered around. Even the solemnity of the funeral did not hide the tension that exists between the warring parties in the family. As the episode progresses, Prince Aymond (Leo Ashton) becomes close to Vhagar, but loses an eye, leading to a confrontation between his half-sister, Rainier (Emma D’Arcy and his mother, Queen Alicent (Olivia Cook).

driftmark ended with Rainier and Damon (Matt Smith) are married, and Ser Laenor Velarion (John Macmillan) abandons his duties in pursuit of happiness beyond the Narrow Sea. And now a preview of the eighth episode of the series, tide lord was released by HBO and it shows the consequences of those decisions of all involved. The preview features the ever intriguing Ser Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans) playing king presumably with King Viserys (Paddy Considine) health fails him significantly. Rhaenyra is by no means content that her enemies are effectively in control of the kingdom, and she seeks help from her husband, Damon, to return to King’s Landing and fight the “serpents,” as she calls them.

The series will also make another time jump, presumably the last as it features older versions of Princes Aegon and Aemond played by Tom Glynn-Carney as well as Ewen Mitchell. And yes, Aegon Carney is already exuding King Joffrey vibes. Ser Laenor’s decision to renounce his birthright now seems to be a major issue and a new power struggle in Westeros. His father, the Sea Serpent, Lord Korlys Velarion (Steve Toussaint) was badly wounded in action. It is not known if he passed away, but it seems that the struggle for his successor continues. With his heir somewhere beyond the Narrow Sea, Corlis’s brother Ser Waymond (Wil Johnson) will stake his claim on Princess Rhaenys (Eva Best) in defiant opposition.

The significance of who becomes Lord or Lady of the Tides is important to the overarching storyline. Waymond does not seem to be a fan of Rainier and her sons, as seen at Laena’s funeral with his snide comments. On the other hand, Rainy, while not Rainier’s biggest fan, might be persuaded to side with her on the basis of kinship in the coming war, and make no mistake, it’s coming. The voice of Viserys believes that a house divided against itself cannot stand, and this episode may signify a physical renewal of the rivalry between Ser Kriston (Fabien Frankel) and Prince Damon.

The preview will end with Rainier spotting a trap some are looking for while Waymond plays his own power game. The rivalry between the young princes will return both in the training yard and at the dinner table. This is a real practice, and, as Ser Otto warns, “the threat of war looms.”
