Captain Marvel duet Anna Boden as well as Ryan Fleck intend to write, direct and produce a new drama by eOne and Macro, Whimsical Tales, according to a new Deadline report. The film is described as a “love letter” to the music, movies, sports, politics, places, people, and memories (some real, some fictional) that Fleck grew up with. It will consist of four interconnected stories set in 1987 Oakland, California. Although at first glance each story appears to be set in a world as familiar as ours, according to the Oakland Whimsical Tales hovering outside our knowable universe. Of course, you can reach out and touch it, but it will be very sticky.”
By the name and development of the idea, Whimsical Tales sounds like a story taking place in some sort of parallel universe; however, given Boden and Fleck’s penchant for well-crafted stories revolving around their protagonist, fans can look forward to walking down memory lane with gripping drama at the heart of the story. It is also reported that the Oakland hip-hop legend Todd Shaw he is Too $hort will also be actively involved in the project, as he was an important part of the city’s music scene in the 80s, and the creators felt that his presence was important. The duo reportedly built the script around his music and Shaw agreed to serve as an executive producer along with his manager. David Weintraub after meeting with Boden and Fleck.
This cinematic couple is best known for writing and directing 2019 films. Captain Marvel, which launched the first Marvel Cinematic Universe film with a female superhero. Set in the 1990s, it stars an Academy Award winner. Brie Larson and the main element of the MCU Samuel L. Jackson the film was a resounding box office success and grossed over $1.1 billion worldwide.
Boden and Fleck then continued to work on Davi Waller-Emmy nominated limited series created Mrs America.
