It has been confirmed that ABC is currently in development for a sequel. David E. Kellyhit legal drama, Ellie McBeal. Twenty years ago, the show’s last episode aired on Fox after it won multiple Emmy awards over its five seasons from 1997 to 2002. Karin Gist and will follow a brand new character. Gist is reportedly also serving as showrunner.

The new series will apparently follow a smart young black woman who graduates from law school and immediately gets a job at the law firm that Ally McBeal worked for in the original series. Rumor has it that the main character of the sequel is the daughter of Ellie’s roommate Renee Reddick. Rene originally played Lisa Nicole Carsonwhich largely ceased to operate after Ellie McBeal ended. Apparently it was about Calista Flockhart reprising her role as Ally McBeal in some capacity on the new series, as well as serving as an executive producer. It is said that Flockhart will not make a final decision about his participation in the sequel until the script is completed.
