Juggernaut Netflix very strange things has been in the spotlight ever since Season 4 came out and instantly became one of the most watched shows on the platform, but the renewed attention has also sparked some conspiracy theories. Viewers recently reported that a scene from the first season in which Jonathan (Charlie Heaton) taking pictures of Nancy (Natalia Dyer) when she was undressing was edited to show instead that older brother Byers was just taking pictures of Barb (Shannon Purser) sat by the pool a few minutes before her death. Fans speculated that the change was made because the writers were unhappy with how twisted Jonathan looked because of it, even if the big sequence itself was already a bit creepy.

Official very strange things The writers’ room on Twitter decided to dispel the rumors, however denying that any such edits had been made to previous episodes. “PSA: No scene from previous seasons has ever been cut or edited,” the post reads. “And never will.” As for the scene with Jonathan, the account replied that it wasn’t changed after the fact either.

The whole idea that Matt and Ross Duffer and the rest of the team behind the show will consider amending the show as they see fit due to the issue with Will (Noah Schnapp) birthday. The brothers discussed the possibility of moving his birthday to May 22 instead of March after it seemed like his family and friends forgot about it during the show. However, in the same interview, they also admitted that previous episodes of George Lucas, upon release, urged fans to look for anything that changed between the original release and the edits.

More recently, editor-in-chief Dean Zimmerman also confirmed to Variety that season 4 also had changes to fix some visual effects shots that the Duffers didn’t like. However, this does not necessarily involve completely changing the scene and its context, as many have theorized that this happened with the scene with Jonathan. Most likely, the changes made were minor visual changes that do not affect the overall installation. In the end, it all looks like one of the examples of the Mandela effect, when a group of people incorrectly remembers that something is not happening the way it really is.

While the idea of retroactively changing Jonathan to be less nasty didn’t pan out, it did spark some discussion about the ethics of customizing characters and stories post-release. It took a while for the writers’ room to fry one article on twitter for having to retroactively correct himself for talking about the retroactive fix rumors, but it does raise the question of whether “George Lucas-ing” like this can become commonplace to make things better.
