Biedronka employees and people who wanted to shop there today had a difficult morning. Due to a terminal malfunction, customers could only pay in cash. The network reports that the problem has already been resolved.

The Saturday before the non-trading Sunday is a very busy day in the shops: there are many more shoppers than on any other day, and it is truly the worst day for any breakdowns. This happened today in the Biedronka stores. Payment terminals stopped working around 10 am. It quickly became clear that this was due to problems on the part of the supplier – Pekao SA.

Terminals did not work in Biedronka

At around 11 a.m., some Pekao SA services intended for bank clients stopped working: there were problems with card payments, ATM withdrawals and Blik payments. Around 3 p.m., a bank representative said that the glitch had been fixed and all services were now working normally.

In stores where the terminals did not work, customers could only pay in cash. This was far from an ideal solution: in Biedronka stores, half of the transactions now take place at self-checkouts, so moving sales to employee-operated checkouts led to huge queues. However, some shoppers still had to give up shopping because they don’t carry cash.

At 16.00 Biedronka reported that the problems with the terminals had been resolved.

“We would like to inform you that the failure at Bank Pekao SA, which affected customers throughout Poland and made non-cash payments impossible, has been resolved,” the network said in a statement.
