Will Biedronka employees follow in the footsteps of farmers? Possible strike

Must read

After Kaufland employees, Biedronka employees begin to fight for improved working conditions, writes Dziennik Gazeta Prawna. Employees take into account, among other things: an increase in collective wages and an improvement in the staffing of enterprises.

According to Dziennik Gazeta Prawna, Biedronka employees have until March 6 to sign a petition, the purpose of which is to ensure stable and safe working conditions. The document must then be submitted to the network management in Poland and Portugal. – We suspect that the Portuguese authorities are not fully aware of working conditions in Polish stores – – says the representative of the production committee of the NSZZ “Solidarity” Hieronimo Martins Distribution, who is quoted by the newspaper.

Biedronka employees with three demands

The trade unionist stresses that the petition has enormous support in the country, although he admits that collecting signatures is not easy. – In stores where there is no manager, all employees sign it. Employees are threatened with dismissal if they do not refuse to participate in the action. They were also banned from joining trade unions – – says the newspaper’s interlocutor.

Biedronka employees have three demands. First, they hope to improve store staffing levels so they can perform their missions more efficiently. Secondly, they are expecting bonuses for meat counter workers, and thirdly, we are talking about a collective salary increase.

Unions said that if the petition does not receive management support, it could lead to protests in stores and the entry into a collective dispute. However, no details have been provided about exactly what form this action will take.

The newspaper contacted Biedronka for comment. However, the network does not intend to comment on the matter until the board receives the petition.
