The Safe Data page is now available. Janusz Cieszynski explains what happened

Must read

On the bezpiecznedane.gov.pl website, users with a trusted profile can check if their logins and passwords for online stores, mailboxes and e-banking accounts have been leaked. In the morning, however, the system did not work, but now everything has stabilized.

The Trusted Third Party portal reported on Tuesday that logins and passwords associated with Polish website users were leaked online. There are millions of data, according to the site, this is probably the largest leak in the history of the Polish Internet.

Account data stolen

The list of logins and passwords was made public on the Polish forum “Cebulka” in the Tor network. This is where hackers sell stolen data.

The data packet was shared by a user registered two months ago who had not previously posted any other messages. The file contains more than 6 million lines containing the site address, username and password. The stolen data comes from social networks, trading platforms and banks. The list includes Allegro, Facebook, mBank and Onet and WP Email Services.

On Tuesday morning, the Ministry of Digital Development launched a special service with which you can check if our data has been stolen. However, in the first hours the service had a very facade character, because it did not work. It was possible to log in during the day, but the system was unstable: after entering data, many users saw an error message.

Janusz Cieszynski: the system is already working

The site was built quickly and bugs can be fixed in a hurry. Despite this, Internet users were very critical of the errors, due to which it was impossible to check if there was a data leak. On Wednesday afternoon, Janusz Cieszynski commented on the case.

“Website created @COIgovPL from scratch in less than 24 hours. This required, among other things, the use of ready-made parts of already functioning services. Everything happened according to the rules. The launch information caused a large load and unavailability of the system at the time when we downloaded the patches, ”he wrote.
