Before we go shopping… Is May 7th a shopping Sunday?

Since 2020, there are only seven commercial Sundays in Poland. In return, employees received additional days off. These Sundays are usually organized before holidays and periods of long free time. These include May weekends or public holidays.

May 7 does not precede any holiday or longer holiday. This means it’s a non-commercial Sunday. All shopping malls and multifunctional stores will be closed.

Where will we shop after the picnic? Stores open May 7th.

If we need to shop on a Sunday, we have several options for doing so. One of the solutions is to buy goods in the online store of this brand. This form of sale was not covered by the Act. There are a few more exceptions that can work regardless of the day of the week. On Sunday, May 7, you can go shopping:

• at gas stations;

• at catering points;

• in flower shops;

• in bakeries and pastry shops;

• in ice cream shops;

• in pharmacies;

• in kiosks;

• in stores located at railway stations and airports;

• at post offices.

In addition, on Sunday, shopping can be done in small local shops. Condition - the owner is behind the counter. The trade ban also does not apply to franchised stores. On the first Sunday of May, we will shop at Żabka or Carrefour Express.

When is the next trading Sunday?

We have as many as seven Sundays a year when there is no ban on trading. They are usually associated with holiday periods and longer vacations. So far we have had three trading Sundays. One of them preceded the winter holidays, the other - Easter.

The last trading Sunday took place on April 30 and was associated with May Day. The next such opportunity will be June 25th. This will be due to the start of the holiday season. There will be three more trading Sundays before the end of the year:

• August 27;

• December 17;

• December 24th.

However, it is worth remembering that at this time shops could change their opening hours. They are usually open on Sundays from 8:00 to 20:00. The exception is Christmas Eve. On this day, most shops are open only until 14:00.

Since when do we have non-commercial Sundays?

The regulation restricting trading on Sundays and public holidays came into force in 2018. It lays down the rules of trade and activities related to trade. She has undergone various changes several times. Therefore, since 2020, we have seven Sundays without a trading ban per year. Previously, you could shop every first and last Sunday of the month.
