Hackers attacked the ALAB laboratory and stole the data of hundreds of people. The company refuses to negotiate, so criminals publish other people’s data online. The situation is serious, but the company does not intend to comply with the demands of criminals.

ALAB leak

We first heard about a data leak in the ALAB laboratory on November 27, 2023. The criminals stole as much as 246 GB of data from the ALAB laboratory and demanded a financial ransom from the company. If the requirements were not met, the data had to be published on the Internet.

The company did not satisfy the demands of the criminals, so the first pool of personal data of ALAB patients got into the network. Hackers shared 54,000 research results. Now they have released another pool of data, making the whole situation increasingly alarming for patients.

“Criminals have released another piece of data that they gained unauthorized access to as a result of a cyber attack on our servers a month ago,” ALAB PR consultant Dr. Severin Dmowski told Polsat News.

How can we check if our data has become publicly available?

Anyone concerned that their data has been leaked by hackers can check government websites to see if this has happened. To do this, log into the mobywatel app or through a trusted profile and check if your data is on the public list. It is constantly updated.

What to do if our data is leaked?

If we are on the list of people whose details have been made public, we may not provide our PESEL number. It is also worth keeping a close eye on any communications we receive via text message or email. There is a risk that criminals will try to use our data and, for example, take out a loan or credit.

“It is very important to realize that our data has been leaked and cyber fraudsters may want to use it. Therefore, emails/messages and phone calls should be treated with increased vigilance. Check their sender with the source. You can also use the new option and reserve your PESEL number,” instructs CERT Polska.
